Awesome man, thanks. I have a TGI AMD65 my wife got me years ago when they were cheap and plentiful. I have not done much with it, but might use this as inspiration to make it a little more user friendly.

Yea I bought this one at 550, which was cheap compared to today's used 700 dollar asking price. I love it so much, I'd buy it at that too.
Actually, you reminded me I forgot to list one thing. I HIGHLY recommend an AMDTech buffer block. Not only does it soften the recoil, but the block is so thick that it speeds up follow up shots because the bolt travels a whole inch less. After a few thousand rounds, no failures at all and this thing shoots like an AR, I shit you not. Also, this ALG trigger is AMAZING and night and day compared to the Tapco G2. As far as the block, try and find it at third party vendors. The guy who makes them is a nice guy, but he takes forever to ship and when you ask him what the deal is, a month after you order, he may get snarky and treat you like you're being an asshole. He did that to me, not once, not twice, but three times. A cool guy, but slow.
This AMD has been through about 8 revisions. I finally stuck with one for a couple of year, and now I am going to stick with this one. The rest were experimental phases, or doing what I could with what I had, or could afford at the time. Either keep it traditional, traditional with wood or polymer forend, or enhance whatever you need to to personalize it for what is best for you. But whatever you choose, just make sure you do it right. Refrain from buying cheap. If you have to save money, just wait and get the best of whatever it is you are going for. I'm not saying a scout is necessary. Actually a Fenix light or even the new protac rail will do, but if you go cheap, things will break and/or be heavier than the good stuff and you'l just end up with a heavy rifle that is bound to fall apart or have broken useless stuff. I'm not rich, hell I'm not even very wealthy, but believe me, it will pay off to do it RIGHT. Some may say, "don't put 6-700 dollars into a 500 dollar rifle, but they miss the point. You take any good rifle, and the AMD is a GREAT one, throw quality enhancements on it, and it handles and shoots like a 2000 dollar rifle.
Anyway, looking forward to seeing your build. Have fun. Please post at important stages. It's such a fun and educational journey. You will find that it becomes an extension of yourself as long as you strive to know your weapon in and out and that includes lots of research and range time. Enjoy!
