Mine was just welded, It broke the weld after I fired 40 rounds. I pined it and welded it, as you described...............Sully

I carefully filed with a small triangular file on the tack weld spot on my 65 and the whole extension/brake threaded off. I tried to save the original brake, but it was pinned/welded-over and was impossible to remove without disfiguring the brake. So I canned it. I used a Tapco one-piece extension brake with the same design brake and welded it on. It's very important to fit the new attachment if it is supposed to have a certain orientation, by adjusting it so it is threaded on tight exactly when it is clocked correctly. This way it will not vibrate when fired and break the weld. BTW, the extension on an AMD65 with original barrel is required to be 4.25", mimimum. You don't have to try to measure from the muzzle to the barrel shoulder or make any calculations. If the attachment is 4.25" or more in length, and if it's attached according to the rules, you will be legal.

I agree. I've removed and replaced brakes on two AMD-65s, one TGI/FEG and one Century. Both were spot welded. Thread is standard 14x1 LH. Just be sure you immediately replace with a permanent installment of something that allows you to maintain legal minimum 16" barrel length (unless you get a stamp from ATF for the SBR). Have fun.

Wow. A CAR style brake! Great idea. Where can you get one threaded 14x1 LH ?
Found one. But it's 5.5" long. Got it ordered from Northern Gun Parts. Sould have it in a few days. |
