Bought this 107CR a couple of years and she's been hiding in the back of the safe as of late. Never had any issues with it and runs like a champ. Lately my AK Fire has been stoked again. I want to have the barrel cut and crowned, but not made into a SBR. Looking at getting a muzzle device pinned and welded to make the 16.1 inches. What's the latest and greatest on flash hiders and comps these days. I'm really leaning towards the Bulgarian 4 piece muzzle hider, but Kvar only has the shorter version. I was also looking at the Battlecomp and Noveske KX3.  Pros/Cons? I really want to start running this rifle.

The link above is for a M24x1.5 RH for a AK74. Would I just have to have the barrel threaded in M24 x 1.5 when its cut?  I'm still a total AK newbie. Please excuse the newb questions.

The Battle Comp is nice, but pretty overpriced. You might want to check out the Manticore offerings, or maybe the Griffin Armament Flash Comp (which might only be in 14x1, but if you're getting the barrel re-threaded that might not be a problem).

It would attach to the fsb.  24x1.5 is thread pattern on ak74 fsb, not barrel.

Ok, I've been researching into the night and I think I have this down. The barrel on my 107CR would have to be cut/crowned to be flush with the FSB. Then the CNC Warrior 4 piece flash hider would be pinned/welded to the actual FSB which is threaded in M24 X 1.5. Is this correct? It's time I learn about this weapon system. ARs will have to take a back seat for a bit.

Decided to go non sbr route on my 106.  This is a Chris Butler extended brake/booster.  I'm really not that worried about carbon build up after talking with my smith.  The bulgy 4pc is nice for maintenance...but it's heavy.

I went from FR to CR and cut down barrel with Bulgy fs/gb combo.

That is correct.

Since the CR's are hard to find now would it be the same to just buy a 107fr and have the barrel cut down?

That's what I did.  You have choices, find a fs/gb combo (bulgy, venom, krebs...etc) or push FS to GB like Krebs 103K.

Cut barrel and pin/weld device or leave barrel at 16 and thread barrel for device of your choice...you could also cut barrel and pin/weld device to barrel.  You got options son.

Awesome, this is what I wanting to find out. I don't know zilch about AK but have always wanted one just to have. I plan on buying a 107fr this month or next and form 1 it before the deadline then go from there on how I want to complete it.

Thinking about going in another direction now. Looking at cutting the barrel and have a 3 prong Surefire flash hider pinned for a SF SOCOM Mini. I've been needing a 7.62 can for my 10.5 Noveske 300 BLK. It only makes sense now. I wonder how short I can go down on the barrel and still have the 16.1 inches. Thoughts?

Edit: Change of plans one more time. I'm gonna do the Warcomp pinned and get me the SF Socom 762-Mini. Yolo!

This is what you want to do.  I had the same thing done by Chris B on an SGL21.  He put a folder on it, his pinned extended brake and the FGB/SB combo.  I also had his bulletproof finish.

Sold it last year for a slight loss to another member on here who was begging me to buy it for years.  I emailed him 2 years after our first contact and 2 days later the USPS MO's arrived.

I miss it every day.

I love me a CR and have a few myself that I SBR'ed and really like. A few points just to keep in mind, the shorter sight radius sucks a bit, especially as my eyes are getting older. Also, with many of the welded on devices the balance may get pretty front heavy. If you want the CR look without doing an SBR then hey go for it! I totally get that. But practically speaking, a regular AK with the longer sight radius is probably a better choice. Good luck to you and post pics when you are done!

And just to note, the Bulgy four piece is awesome and works really well, especially when shooting indoors like next to a wall. But it is a heavy SOB.

Thanks for the pic.  She couldn't have gone to a better home.  My Butler 105 will never go, though.
