The SLR has a muzzle break adapter on it.  Is it permanently attached or can you take it off and clean under the adapter?

If it's the F/FR model with the 74 style brake, you should be able to just unscrew it no problem. Not sure about the models with other muzzle devices.

I have the break off. I was wondering about the adapter.  Do you take your adapter off and clean it/under it?

If you are talking about the front site base with 24mm threads, then no. I would leave that attached. Hit the threads/face with a brush when you clean and you are good.

Is the adapter one piece with the front sight base?

the "adapter" is the sight base - the threads are integral to it.

Just remove the muzzle device and clean up the muzzle and threads with a brass brush. I like to let some solvent soak into the carbon for a while first. The carbon really cakes onto the muzzle with an AK-74 muzzle device, it's probably the only downside of the design.
