I bought a WASR-10 weeks ago from a friend and noticed that it is failing to fire hollow-point rounds. It will only shoot properly with FMJs. How serious is my situation and can it be fixed?

By the way, I apologize if my gun is having an obvious problem or if it is suffering from something that everyone knows about. I have not had time to conduct my own thorough research and I honestly do not know much about this particular gun.

Failing to fire or Failing to chamber a round? If the latter, is the nose of the bullet hitting the barrel when it tries to feed?

Take some pics of the failure and post them. That will help you get some good advice.

Hmmm, I always thought it was mostly normal for AKs and some SKSs to have feeding problems with HPs...

And a WASR-10 in CUBA?

Please elaborate....
