Folks

I have a Yugo underfolder (M70 Ab2t). It has been very reliable and a good shooter. About 2000 rds. thru it. Never a failure.

About a month or so ago I began to experience at least 1 FTE with each magazine. Never in the same position in the mag. I've tried different mags
and various rounds of ammo. Still no luck.

I took the rifle apart and cleaned it well. Stripped the bolt carrier apart and sonic cleaner the parts. Put it back together and had the same issue.

I stopped by a gunsmith who was too busy to work on it but he suggested that it could be the recoil spring is too weak and to replace it. He also said the bolt sometimes holds back and it shouldn't, thought the bolt or carrier might be out of spec.

Any ideas?

Also can anyone tell me if the Yugo Bolt and recoil spring is a standard part compatible with other AK's? Yugo's have a shorter forearm I know. Any trusted parts suppliers you could recommend to me.

I would think your recoil spring would get weaker with use and not cause FTE. If anything it would slam a open little harder.

I would think it is your grenade launcher possibly leaking some gas so you are not getting full power recoil.
Can you see if your gas diverter for the grenade launcher is corroded/dirty? If it is you can buy a stainless one
Have you cleaned your gas tube?
Made sure the gas port hole is fuly open and not carboned up?

Hope this helps

That's what my problem was. I bought a new gas valve from CNC warrior. You should have seen what corrosive ammo does to a gas valve after the weapon has been sitting for 20 years.

Yeah. Find another gunsmith. He's clueless........

Recoil springs are the same. I think the bolts are, but don't go changing bolts without checking headspace after installing new one. I doubt that is your trouble, though.

You say just one random FTE per mag. How far is the rifle throwing the other ejected shells? As others have stated, you may be slightly under-gassed, or are starting to have some ejector wear. Look for peening/rounding on the ejector tip. It should be sharp/square with no deformation. It should also ride "tight" as the bolt passes it.

A weak extractor spring is also possible. Carbon/dirt around the extractor claw?

Yeah I've seen the same thing on my Yugo. It was amazing it was still operating. That stainless valve is a great idea. You'd of thought the Yugo's would have installed tham a long time ago. But then again the Yugo car Zastava tried to sell here years ago was a redone Fiat. LOL

Got a new gunsmith and dropped it off Saturday. He suspects gas system also.

I changed the extractor and spring and cleaned the bolt thorougly prior to dropping it off. It didn't help.

Ejector looks good but the smith was going to look at it too. Is that something that can be replaced? Looks like it is part of the reciever.

I did notice one thing. It flings the cases pretty well and they are uniform, however the nouth of the case neck on the jams is mangled up oretty good. Looks like it was
crimped by a set of pliers or something. DOes that help the diagnosis? I showed it to the smith and he said the extractor bite (new) looks good and consistent even on the
fte case.
