I have the one that is neutered and came with the draganov stock. On a Sunday last day of a fun show I paid 225.00 dollars for mine. plus 75 bucks for 2000 rounds of sapson 7.62x39 That was when the ak ammo just started to go up I used to get cases of sapson 1000 rounds for 28 buck to 25 depending on the fun show. I wish I had bought a couple more. Same with the finish M44  from back then.

O.P. Century can still make usable ak rifles and pistols or import them at least. You just need to know what to look for before you commit to any one ak no matter the importer or maker. If you are looking I would personally avoid the usa made century ak rifles like the RAS47 ask before you buy if your unsure.

M70ab whatever the full stocked version is on the DCI receiver, excellent rifle.  Once went 1k rounds without cleaning just for the hell of it, not one malfunction but did have to use a rubber mallet to work the charging handle for the last two mags lol.  After cleaning worked perfect again.

Really well built gun.

NPAP, only gripes are the lack of furniture options and the goofy optics rail, I worked around both. Definitely worth the $450 I paid for it new!

first wasr i got around '10, paid 450 for it and thought I overpaid for the time but I got to look check it out in person. took a couple mags to break in but like a sewing machine after that. the receiver has some bends from pressing the rivets but it just works.

Then got a pretty one in 15 when cugir started making pretty rifles.

Also an AES10B when JG had them for 425 shipped w/out the bipod. the parts must have been fit with a sledge hammer. It takes tools to pry the gastube off and the front sight was crooked as hell. Pulled the sight tower off put on a bipod and put the front sight back on straight. The only time it has failed was when i forgot to wind the drum mags enough

The romanian stuff was never pretty but it sure was cheap and just works. I never fooled around with the century built guns, just the imported ones.

Some of it is what century imported, they didn't screw around with it just stamped their info. on it and moved it down the line. Anything century works on should be viewed with a suspicious eye & inspected accordingly.

N-PAP.

I'm new to the AK world; my experience shooting one goes back a whole four days.

So far; I'm hooked though.

Picked this up last Saturday at the gun show on an impulse and I'm glad I did.

I picked my new WASR 10 up last night, the furniture was awful so I swapped it out with whatever I had lying around, it looks terrible.

I've also learned that anyone that says an Arsenal isn't worth it, has never owned an Arsenal. This thing is rough, the good news is that it is pretty straight (very slight cant on the FSB and RSB to the right.)

The safety is also very stiff and steel mags won't lock in. It needs a little filing on the mag catch. Not too much wobble.

I picked them up at a gun show last weekend and haven't tried them yet.

12 bucks apiece.

I'm a greenhorn in the AK universe so I don't know anything about those mags at all.

What's the leaf?

Edit:

I just looked at one and tried to insert it, and yes it has the leaf on it.

It also needs to be filed down before it will fit.

Which ones should I be buying and from whom?

The leaf doesnt really mean anything important AFAIK, they are just marked that way.

Commie steel are your best bet for the money. Polish are always a good choice and Aim surplus has those in stock now. Personally, my favorite are the Russian bakelite mags, (like in my avatar) they function like steel, and are easier and more comfortable to handle. They tend to be expensive, but they are worth it to have at least 2-3 of them. I need about 5 more.

Couple WASRs. First one was one of the worst AKs I'd ever owned and that is saying something. I've had some rough Norincos, Maddis, etc. back in the day. This WASR made them seem nice. Cracked rivets, loose balsa wood stock, screwed up mag catch, canted front sight that had to be adjusted as far as it would go, 4th world machining, looked like metal filing storage container but that's expected. It was one of the "new and improved" rifles. Sent it back and the replacement was around same manufacturing date but quality was night and day. The replacement rivaled my Arsenals. Machine work smooth. After throwing the furniture in the trash and replacing, it's one of my favorites. Zero problems. Next one I got was pretty decent.

The other was a VZ2008. I bought a pair. These were great looking rifles however one had a whacked out RSB and equally screwed up front sight. Could not be zeroed. Pain free exchange with J&G. Both good shooters. I still need to do the bolt mod but hasn't been an issue so far.

I wouldn't touch any of their RAS47 rifles if it was given to me. I'd get another WASR as long I could see it or it was from a place that stands behind them.

I started in the late 90s so I got in on the good old days of cheap aks.  Sar 1,2,3. Draco, polish underfolder, Golani, Fal.   The Galil has some issues I need to work out. The rest are dependable.  I regret that I never bought the C93 or the Draganov in 7.62x54. Back when it was cheap

Here's a review from The American Rifleman wherein the reviewer notes the use of a cast front trunion and  bolt carrier but, nonetheless,  declares the rifles to be "rugged".

My first century AK and current project.  Polish AKMS.  A didn't see any specific hate online re this model and the individual rifle looked solid.
