I've decided to change out the stock muzzle device that comes on the WASR 10.

Suggestions?

Fighter brake.  http://shop.akoperatorsunionlocal4774.com/Fighter-AK47-Muzzle-Brake-Fighter-Brake.htm

These work great at a reasonable price. You will have to fit it to your rifle, but it only takes a few minutes.

PWS is pretty effective but directs a LOT of blast back to ya.

I run a Tapco slotted brake on my WASR 10, it's cheap, light, and it does help at keeping muzzle rise down without venting back.

Tried it on my Draco pistol but the fireballs that came out were turned into a 'fan' of fire venting up which was much more noticeable from shooter's perspective.

Eventually dropped the Draco slant brake for a muzzle nut, Draco w/brace just fits in my small range bag with no device and I didn't notice any difference between the two. As much as I laugh at fake supressors I picked up an el cheapo mini fake spetsnaz suppressor that does a great job at killing flash and directing blast away from me. But it's sitting in a drawer right now, adding a 6" device to a pistol  on a full sized AK receiver kinda defeats the purpose, unless you just want something that's still legally defined as a pistol.

I'm pretty happy with this setup from VG6 (Epsilon and C.A.G.E. Device)...

The Tapco slot works so well, that I don't know why you'd spend any more than that. Very underrated cheap muzzle device and one of a few gems from the oft ridiculed Tapco

I have a 24mm to 14mm adapter and true 74 muzzle device that I tried side by side with the Tapco slot on the WASR.  Recoil and muzzle rise reduction were almost the same which was very surprising.

I can't really live without a 24x1.5 FSB. I am not married to only the original 74 brake but still prefer it over most others. There are a lot of good options out there for 24x1.5 like Manticore Nightbrake for example

I second the Wolverine silencer. I would buy one but I already built a dedicated AK silencer. I might buy one anyway some day. Mine is as quiet as the Wolverine but theirs looks a lot cooler and also locks onto the muzzle. I have to use plumbers tape on mine to keep it from backing off. Or possibly I could try a nord lock washer...

It's much more tactical to be able to shoot without ruining your hearing. It's probably the biggest tactical advantage I've gotten from any single piece of equipment. I'd choose a silencer over a scope if I had to choose. It was almost hearing safe without earplugs on my 7.62 AK and it was better yet on an AK74 I used to have.

As much as people blast on century ther3e chevron muzzle brake is one of the best I have used at the most affordable price.  After that option I would recommend robs option on the warfighter brake from AKOU.  I've use Manticore's night brake and really enjoyed that one too, and also the Tapco bird cage is a decent piece for the price.  Allot of options out there under the $50 mark if price is a concern.

I have a CNC Warrior PKM Short on mine, works well and is still a "Soviet" accessory if that means anything to you, I try not to make my AKs too much like ARs and try to only use Eastern Euro parts if possible.

OP needs to better define his parameters. Does he have a baller budget or is it ramen noodles?  Does he want a FH, brake/comp or combo device?

The PWS brake is pretty nice.

I have just started using the Daniel Defense muzzle rise reducing brake as well and find it to be well priced and effective.

The Century chevron muzzle brake works very well as a brake.  It does pretty much nothing for flash suppression (not surprising since it's a brake) compared to a bare muzzle.

The Definitive Arms Fighter Brake (can be found in the AK Operators Union store) works quite well as a brake with the added bonus of quite a bit of flash suppression.  It's also lightweight, short, and fairly inexpensive.  It's my current choice overall.

I prefer the 74 style brake. Makes a real difference on my rifle in recoil.
