I'm not versed in AK variants at all. But I love the platform and looking to extend my collection. My LGS has a MAK-91 for sale for $700. Thumbhole stock, original 10-round mag, no bipod, stamped receiver, longer barrel. Is this a good deal? GB didn't turn up much.

Thanks guys!

I believe the Mak91 is a milled rifle so I would personally say yes its a very good price.  If it says "National Match" it may be a steal.

I bought a National match factory 386 for $700 myself last week.Has the Chinese letters on the right side of the receiver

Yes, the Mak 91 is a milled rifle, with the longer barrel.

Thats an excellent price, buy those all day long for that kind of money

Thanks for the replys guys! After reading the comments and doing some more research, I think it's a NHM 91. Not a MAK91. Cause it definitely doesn't have a milled receiver and the thumbhole stock doesn't look like the one pictured above.

Looks like mint condition NHM 91's on GB are over $1k though.....

Even though it's a nhm91 stamped receiver it's still priced low.

Your right they go beyond $1000 on gunbroker in new condition.

Offer $625-650 and see if they take it

Well guys, I got a steal then!

Just got back from the LGS and paid $600 out the door. Evidently the guy didn't know how much this was worth and was willing to bargain a bit. Thank you guys for the info and recommendations!!

I STILL can't believe Chicom AKs are pulling that kind of money.  I remember when they were 2/3 the price of a WASR.  Sure, it's not as radically insane as $89 SKSs pulling $400-500, but close.

Can you check to see if it has a shortened bolt like this one in the middle:

Can you also check to see if it has a stepped hammer like this:

If so, you may notice light primer strikes and can read more about it in my thread below.  I ended up getting both the bolt and hammer replaced and no more light primer strikes.  If it were me, and you do have the above modifications, I would recommend getting the bolt changed out.  The light primer strikes are extremely annoying.

That's not how it works. The guy who sold the gun to the Pawn Shop was desperate for cash, & sold it for $250 max. So while you got a good deal, the Pawn Shop owner more than doubled his money. How many stores sell their goods for a 100% mark up?  GARY
