ETA: Looks like an AK-103 is the obvious winner.

I recently came into a 7.62x39 unconverted Saiga through a local trade, and now I'm faced with some options:

1) Convert it to a full size AK-103 with correct 5.5mm side folding stock
2) Convert it to an AKSU (in 7.62x39) with the correct 5.5mm folding stock, correct length barrel, and permanently attached PBS-4 type faux suppressor to make it legal length
3) Same as option 2, but keep the barrel long with no faux suppressor

Now, I already have an AK-103, AK-104, and 7.62 AKSU in my collection, so think of it as what would YOU prefer if I were to offer it to you in a future trade or sale (it's not for trade or sale at this time, btw). SBR is not an option at this point since I already have an SBR'd version and don't want or need two of them.

I said 103 also. Any of the special markings by chance?

Unfortunately, no. Unlike my last one it does have receiver dimples, though.

Yep

This is probably the only 7.62 rifle I would own. I had an SLR107UR and it was a lot of fun but not as much as the 5.45 AKSU.

I'm a weirdo, and I know it wasn't an option but I'm partial to the 104.  I like the barrel length and how it stays a little shorter but still useable and the little more modern look to it.  So, yeah.

I am as well, but my last Bulgarian combo block is already installed on a Bulgarian AK-105 barrel. If I drag my heals on the build to the point that they come back in stock at K-Var then I might go that route.

There is a guy on the files making a passable reproduction for ~$130 I think.  Another guy is making a no threads version for $106 plus shipping (just bought 2 of those, making a couple almost 102's kinda things with YHM QD breaks).

I saw that. But I tend to stick to the originals if at all possible.

Well, if your cool with the $250+ price tag more power to ya.  I'm a shooter and not a collector though, so it doesn't fit bill to keep original if its more.  I can respect the original parts though.

Well thankfully I've never paid more than the $113 that K-Var asks when they're in stock.

I'm changing my vote, 107 style in 7.62x39.

Funny thing, I have all the equipment to do it, just not the skills to know how

I have a tutorial on how to do it. If you were local I'd let you come over and I'd guide you through the process. Turbothis (Matt Yeamans) on the files is a good guy and does good work, just no refinish work.

Would you like to share? Maybe that's the direction I'll go if it's feasible.

I second this motion.  If I had some dims I might be able to get them drawn up, maybe get a guy to come run my machines and make something.

Oh, I thought you had info on how to make a 107/108...  Not exactly the same as a standard 100 series.

Not a fan of fake suppressors or long, skinny barrels.  One more vote for 103 folder.

Me too. I couldn't believe I missed a tutorial on how to make a 107 pattern rifle all this time, haha.

That definitely looks to be the case. Makes it an easier build, too. I'll keep the AKSU parts for another build.
