Quick overview:

Pros:
-build quality appears good
-Hungarian parts kit seems like it was new or almost new
-everything's straight
-fennocite process (version of nitro carburization) provides good surface hardness/corrosion resistance on most components
-Gunkote finish over fennocite on production guns
-bayo lug and cleaning rod included

Cons:
-some hand guards will need modification to fit Hungarian trunnion
-4140 steel barrel (shoots well though)

DDI seems to be doing good work, I really want one of their stamped underfolders.

I always enjoy your videos man, keep it up.

I watch all your videos.  Would you recommend this over the newer imported WASR 10 rifles?

Thanks.   I honestly recommend both rifles at their current price points.   Just pick whichever has a feature set you prefer for your intended/planned use.

I didn't hear you say it and it's not listed on Atlantic's site, is the barrel chrome lined?

That is correct the barrel in Fennocite treated this is similar to Nitride treated but supposed to be better , Below is a pic of a DDI Wood stock classic style rifle

Does that offer anything over chrome lining?

Good review as always PD, thanks for posting it, been lusting after a DDI rifle for awhile, like to see some longer term-higher round count tests of the fennocite barrels, is there a break-in procedure recommended for these barrels?

Word is that inrange the builder for some of the DDI guns and that's why he's not taking work at the moment.

Just what I was told today.

Take it for what it's worth.

I also heard Troy at In Range Inc. is involved in the current DDI stamped builds.  If that's true then DDI has one hell of an AK gunsmith working with them on their current product line.

Wow. Does that mean he is still going to be doing his own thing alongside them or is the DDI move permanent?

What I was told was that it's a contract run and when done he should be taking work again

I really like the Hogue furniture and Phoenix stock on this rifle - much more than I expected.  My intention was to install a Magpul stock on this DDI, but I think I'm going to keep everything just like it came.

My M10 has that exact furniture combination. I was also planning on swapping out the furniture until I finally got it in my hands and now I can't imagine using anything else. It's a great combination.

Any reason that DDI chose to use lower grade 4140 barrels and not 4150? To me personally, that's the only reason I won't be picking one up.

The actual difference between 4140 and 40150 barrels not that big of a deal when you look at the Metallurgy of it. Yes, 4150 is a slightl better metal but, I hardly doubt there is a civilian arm chair operator on this forum that will shoot out a 4140 barrel based on its Metallurgy alone. Especially in a semi auto rifle.....

From what I read they used 4140 because of the fenocite finish  The 4150 barrels have too much carbon in them and do not work well with the fenocite process.

Hm... Never heard that before.   Do you know where you read that?

There are plenty of manufacturers making 4150 barrels with melonite/nitride treating

I think it was on their FB page.  I can't find the exact quote concerning 4150's carbon content but there's a post from May 26 about the barrels they use.  There's a comment stating that 4150 and fenocite "do not play well together".

If you want one of the Bakelite UF that ATLANTIC FIREARMS has listed you had better hurry. They are a limited run. I purchased one back in June and they sold out soon after but came back in stock about two weeks later. I love mine!
