Don't know why, but I'm feeling the urge. I have read what everyone says about them, cheek weld, discomfort, etc.
Truth is, I just really like the way they look. Truthfully, I have never shot one; all my experience with any kind of folding stock is with a TGI AMD65. I have no problem shooting those, even without the cheek riser. Looking at the $600-$800 offerings at Atlantic. Talk me out of it or talk me in to it. |

I bought my first one because they are just plain cool. Then I bought 2 more of them. I have a Polish, Yugo AB2, and a Yugo M64.
I don't shoot them much, but I do like having them. |

Because they're awesome. Everyone should have at least one in their collection.

Side folders are fine, but I'm specifically wanting an underfolder. I'd just like to know which ones are best and most solid for the price range.

I bought a couple on a whim, but they really aren't good for shooting, unless you shoot ROP or Liberia Style.
Ergonomically speaking, any other kind of folder is better. |

Definitely one of the best looking AK's....comfort...not so much.
|
|
I was worried about being able to shoot it, but I didn't find mine to be uncomfortable at all. I have one of those ATI milled yugos.
Why they just didn't make a strait clone is beyond me. |

Great looking rifles guys. You definitely aren't steering me away with the pics! Those look fantastic!

I still don't understand the cheek weld issue others have. If ya shoot a straight up combat style or isosceles there is no issue with cheek weld. I love mine:

Do it! I got this yesterday from Atlantic. I'm still deciding on making a 545x39 double unfolder from a Romy 545 rifle.I have everything I need to do it.

Sidefolders work better for me. Underfolders just feel uncomfortable to me.

I am likely going to go with the Magpul Zhukov folding stock on the WASR, so I'll have that base covered. Or I may just leave it stock for that "old fashioned" look. :)
Thanks for the pics guys, I really do appreciate them. They all look great, the Polish models look fantastic to me. |

Apex still has M65 kits..... Got my kit at APEX and had it built by POHF. Edit: Underfolders are sweet... but definitely harder to shoot. The below picture compares groups shot by the Polish fixed stock versus the Romanian underfolder... they both have Romy CL barrels. |

I Love my underfolders.
I can see why some folks dont like them, but, fortunately, I dont have those issues. I like the feel of the angled folder , like type 3's and chinese best. Gotta love the compact package too. stow-n-go |

Now that these are back in stock, I'd say that's your best option. Very well made, all new, factory-built by Zastava, ridiculously inexpensive for what it is (even at the new higher prices).
That said, those Polish rifles look gorgeous, kit builds or not! |

DDI is just about an hour and a half from here, so I'm also looking at their underfolder too. I am glad to see relatively reasonable prices on most of these. I REALLY love all the Polish models pictured in this thread. I'm lusting after them! But the Pap at that price is pretty sharp, and with the QC check I'd feel good about getting it from Atlantic. I've seen their CS in action and know they take care of their buyers. Plus I have no plans to modify the underfolder I get; going to stay completely traditional, so the Yugo handguards wouldn't bother me a bit. I'm saving already for whatever. If Atlantic only had a 90 day layaway, |

So any consensus on the best available underfolder currently available?
Both bargains like the Zastava as well as offerings from say arsenal? Which are the best in each category? |

You slide the stock up further on your shoulder and the cheek reaches the stock. Ok maybe it's the chin, but who cares, it gets the job done. There is only ONE issue I with the underfolder IMO, ok maybe two. 1) The stock catches your jacket when you try to shoulder it... doesn't happen until you are in full dress. 2) There is nowhere to store a cleaning kit. So, I am a LOVER of the under folder, but more of a lover of the fixed stock. But, I just love AK's in traditional fashion, I'll take anything over an AR stock or Crapco on an AK. |

I am less concerned about it than most, but that only comes after several decades of practice and experience and developing some non-standard shooting skills. |
