I am back in the AK market and am narrowing down my search.

I know I want an AK in 7.62x39. I am really leaning towards a Rifle Dynamic AK but I am having trouble justifying that much for an AK. Before I make my final decision I was hoping to get some input from you guys on what you feel the best 7.62x39 AK style rifle is.

Thank you in advance

I have several... if I could only keep one in 7.62 it would be the Arsenal side-folder,  no contest at all.

YMMV.

Kind of depends on what you want.

If you have enough $ for a RD build I'd buy an SA-93 and de-ban it.

That will give you a sweet ass AK and not one that everyone else has.

I'd be partial to the Arsenal SAM7UF if I was in the market. IMHO, "Best" would have a milled receiver.

Bulgarian milled, hammer forged receiver and hammer forged chrome lined barrel.

SLR-107FR.

I really like the side folder.  All of the advantages of a fixed stock AK, and all of the advantages of a folding stock AK.

Gonna buck the trend here a little and vote a Norinco or Polytech.  Perhaps a Hungarian SA85 variant?.......

I also like Norincos, but what do you mean by "best?" In standard configuration, most of the guns, put together by factories supplying militaries are going to work. If you want pretty, that's another story.

Double This.

I have the that poly folder on a Romy G kit/NoDak Spud receiver. The stock is amazingly solid.

I own an Arsenal SAM7-R. I love it. Had two Wasr's, had a Polish Tantal, and the Arsenal is what I should have bought off the bat. Yes, they all functioned without malfunction, but the look, feel, and my groupings are better. Some of that is personal preference. It is the milled receiver though, I think I'd go stamped now simply because the weight savings in a stamped receiver, and a side folding stock would be nice.

I just got an SLR-107FR, but my favorite will always be my Polytech "spiker," because stabby, baby.

Chinese rifles are hard to beat, and you can clean them with just about any common automotive solvent without stripping the finish. Try that with an SLR-107.

The Chicom guns also hold their value very well, if you're into that sort of thing.

A properly assembled WASR 10 or 10/63 is the best 7.62 rifle out there.  Sub $600 at most places, more durable finish than Arsenal, standard AK parts, plenty of muzzle device options.

You can do any smoothing of the action yourself with some sandpaper and a file.  No need to pay Rifle Dynamics to do something you can do for $60.

Best is hard to say. I favor the Vepr rifles, but my baby is a Bulgarian SAM7SF-84 in the form of an AR-M9F.

Its a preference. Some people favor AKM pattern weapons, others the 74/100 series. Their will never be a single " best". Too many great ones out there to choose just one.

Best bang for your buck in my opinion are the new Zastava builds. Atlantic has em for sale and they'll do a QC check before they send it.

So pretty much any SLR series is on the top of the list?

Paying for a Rifle Dynamics isnt really worth it since they just do things that I can do myself on a arsenal build right?

Thank you all for the replies so far! I really appreciate it!

So after looking at some reviews of the  SAM7 SF-84 I think that will be my next AK!

Is the 84 the same one that everyone is talking about? Or is there a different model?

I am also looking at the SAM7K-03 on Atlantic firearms website. Any opinions on that one?

Thanks again everyone!

The SAM7SF 84 is the one we're talking about, mine is about 8 years older and not the -84 model but it is essentially the exact same thing with the exact same features

I absolutely love mine, especially the ambi safety,

It's the part of the overall sam7 line of rifles but it's like the 'ultimate' one with all the accessories

I haven't had personal time with the k03 model but I do have krinkovs, they are a LOT of fun

Again, it really depends on your criteria. Arsenals (especially the stamped ones) aren't anything special, but they are factory guns that are consistently built correctly. Sort of the AK equivalent to buying a Colt 6920. If function is what you're after, and you don't want to have to potentially correct things like canted sights, the Arsenal is the way to go.

Some of their higher end stuff is a different story. Nicer finish, etc. Thinking of one of the new 7.62 guns with the right-folding stock and thumb safety, myself. Only problem is I don't really like milled AK's.

I'm just going to say- if you do not yet have a milled variant, get one.

[#39]
Would someone mind giving me a run down of the milled vs stamped variants? I know that milled = heavier, more rugged, and ore accurate. But what are the other benefits/disadvantages of the milled vs stamped?

Thanks!

I don't know about being the "best" but I think a WASR is a great bargain. I just traded a PSA AR for one.
