I'm looking at a TGI FPK (PSL) rifle.

The bottom of the receiver is marked "FPK Dragunov, Made in Romana, TG Knox, TN".

I've read that the TGI FPK rifles that are marked on the bottom of receiver and with Romania misspelled (missing the "i", see above) are assembled in the US from a parts kit.   And that the ones with the markings on the side of the rear sight base are made in Romania.

Can anyone confirm this?   I really only want one that is made in Romania, I've read the US assembled ones have a fair amount of problems.   If it is one of the US assembled rifles, does it need to be 922 compliant?

Anyone have one of these rifles?  Anyone know if may be assembled in the US?

I had one of those. My understanding is that it was US made. It was fine, no issues. Shot 3moa-ish with cheap wolf ammo. Not sure about 922r. Mine had a welded on muzzle device and no bayonet lug, so I don't think it had to be compliant.

If the price is good, I would go for it. If it doesnt shoot to satisfaction then sell it.  but like i said if the price is right they are such fun rifles

It's part of a package deal that includes a large amount of ammo and 6 mags so if you factor the extras the price seem fair.

Would you guys value a Romanian built rifle over a US assembled rifle?  No prices, just is one worth more than the other?  (Not a price check!)

I tend to go through rifles quickly as my interests change. So I'm worried about resale value if it's a US build rifle.

I would rather a Romy build over a US build, but if the rifle shoots well, it's a keeper no matter who made the receiver.

I always gravitated toward the Romanian imports. However, I've had 5 or 6 PSL's and they never shot the way I wanted them to. It could be that my expectations were too high.

I wish the 54R VEPR's were double stack.

Only seen pictures so far, so don't know the serial number.  Looks like the remnants of the bayonet are there.  How did yours function?

I can't help with your original question but I think the build quality is hit or miss either way.

I own a PSL but I don't know if it's a US parts kit gun or made in Romania. Left side of the sight base is marked FPK, only markings on the receiver are pictured. I don't care either way, it's minute of man/12x12 steel plate at 100 yards. That's the farthest I've ever been able to shoot it, I've never sighted in the optic, always use irons.

Here she is.  All numbers match, even the trigger, hammer and disconnector are numbered.

Funny how apparently the "I" was not working on the engraver.

Accessories that came with rifle:

It also came with 1320 rounds of Czech surplus 7.62x54r:

Couple days before the PSL, I also found a nice clean Chinese SKS for a good deal:

Very nice, even without the letter I.

You should just cut an apostrophe mark behind it and fill it in with white enamel paint so its:

MADE 'N ROMANIA

I had one that was Romanian. I couldn't hit a dang thing with it.

I ended up trading it for a Colt 1911. I think the 1911 was more accurate than the PSL.

Ya, the PSL is a sweet looking rifle, but most aren't very accurate.

The barrels tend to whip a bit.

I bet if it was shortened up a bit with some match ammo they will perform.

Best I could get was around 2.5-4 MOA when I had mine.

Great gun.

Got a chance to shoot it today.  Rain let up long enough to go out to the desert.  Jeep is pretty muddy.

Shot about 180 rounds with no malfunctions.  Only had to make minor adjustment to the scope and no adjustment to the open sights.

Looks like I got a good one.  This was from 75 yards leaning on the door of my Jeep.  Could probably do a bit better on a bench rest.

Five shot group with open sights and 12 to 15 shots with the scope (hot rifle).  The last PSL I had a few years ago would do a 8-10" vertical string as the rifle got hot.  This one didn't do that.

Looks like a keeper!

Awesome Ted, looks like you got a good one.  My father (In his late 70's) has an early import Romak-3, and hits the 400 yard gong 28 out of 30 shots.  The steel gong is 11"x22'".  Unfortunately we're not allowed to put paper targets up at that distance to measure the actual groups.
