Finslayer, thanks for taking the initiative to set up the first AK of the Month. I think it will be a great addition to AR15.com!

Ok. I'll play.
Model: Polish KBK GN60 Country of Origin: Poland Details: I am the second owner of this nice Polish Type III specimen. From the information I got from the original owner, this rifle was built from a PLO kit with the original GN60 chrome lined, cold hammer forged barrel. The receiver is a custom Firing Line T3 receiver. The entire rifle is professionally finished in a deep brushed bluing. Barrel installation and headspacing was performed by Firing Line. I am not exactly sure who did the bluing job. The wood furniture is NOS Polish in it's original factory finish. One of the unique features of the KBK GN60 is the barrel. It's an older design threaded in barrel with a unique cone-shaped muzzle. This shape is mated to a special grenade launching barrel attachment that screwed into the barrel. The cone profile provides a more solid and stable contact point. It also has a special thread protector to support the longer muzzle and shape. The gas block has a gas cut-off valve and is used in conjunction with the grenade barrel attachment. It also uses a special 10 round magazine that is specifically designed for blank ammo. The front sight block retainer plunger pin is also unique that it's bent up instead of just a straight pin. Compliance Parts are the trigger group assembly and receiver. The rest are from the US made followers and floor plates.
Loaded with all the grenade launcher accessories
Close up of the barrel attachment and grenade sights (special grenade backpack in the background)
Gas cut-off valve
Coned muzzle end and flat FSB detent pin ![]() |

It is a monthly thing with a rotating focus. Like next time around it may be AKM's, AK74's, modernized AK's, etc. Everyone will get their chance. It started with Type 1-3 rifles because that is what everyone voted on. |

Took some new pics of the rifle, figured I'd throw them up here.
Russian Type 2 AK47. All original, all serial numbers match. Finish on the wood and metal is original, new receiver section was cold blued and worn to match the rest of the parts. Reweld build by Matt Yeamens. I have a thing for Russian AKs, especially the milled ones. Back in 2005 I first learned about the Type 2 AK47, and literally a week later I came across one during a field exercise when I was in the Army. I wanted it in the worst way, but it was select fire, and was US Army property. After that, the Type 2 pretty much became my holy grail of AK's, but I never thought I'd get one. Fast forward to 2010 or so when I learned about reweld builds. Maybe a month later I came across a Type 2 kit for sale. It wasn't cheap, but I didn't care. I knew if I let it get away I'd probably never come across such a nice one again. Here is the end result, 7 years after I decided I had to have a Type 2. The pictured magazine is a Chinese Desert Storm bringback. I have the proper Russian slabside mag, I just used this one because the wear on it matches the rifle really well while my slabside is brand new.
Close up of receiver.
All original Russian proof marks. These aren't the typical engraved reproductions most guys do. They are the original stamps from the Russian factory.
Izhmash Arsenal mark and 1955 date stamp. The original serial number is now the new receivers serial number. A new one was not engraved, thought that was a cool little detail.
Three shot group to test the zero at 25 yard. Surprised how well this old war horse shoots after who knows how many thousands of rounds have been through it after decades of military service.
There ya go |

Very nice dskeet! Matt Yeamans is now building my Chinese kit on one of his Underfolder receivers. Looks like he did an exceptional job on that type 2. Since you mentioned that the old serial number is now the new serial number, are the Cyrillic letters included on the 4473 form?

I wouldn't hesitate to send him another reweld project if I come across a Russian T3 kit. |

Awesome, thanks for sharing guys! This is the type of stuff I was wanting to see when I first proposed the AK of the Month. The Polish one with the grenade launching stuff is just cool. I've never seen one before. I even love the grenade backpack. The preban Legend is very nice looking with the dark furniture. Underfolders just look great. And that reweld looks fantastic with all those original proof marks. And we're not even in June yet, I can't wait to see what else pops up!

For what it's worth, here's a project that was completed a great while back that I'm happy with - a North Korean Type 58.
Rifle has North Korean early tan sling, North Korean magazine (20rd and 30rd), North Korean magazine pouch, and North Korean bayonet. Uniform / hat brought in to China from North Korea and purchased from a seller in China. Rifle work (remarking of receiver and sight leaf, bluing, welding, etc.) done by Piece of History Firearms in Tucson. Wood was Bulgarian and resanded / refinished by me. Used an old Bulgarian checkered pistol grip and sanded smooth for stain to get uniformity: (older photos)

I honestly could not tell you which of these I like more. This is a very nice selection of historic rifles. Who else has a North Korean AK? Who else has a #'s matching all original AK? An original grenade launcher? Nice job, Guys.
