Looking for an AK74, don't know much about AKs. Any help would be great.

The cheapest AK74 around right now is probably the Polish Tantal. I saw one at a gun shop a couple weeks ago for $404. I should've grabbed it when I saw it, when I went back it was gone.

A M10 will cost you around $500. They're made by Curig and seem to get good feedback. Fit and finish seems on par with a Wasr.

Waffen Werks makes an AK74 clone. If I understand correctly, they are built with Bulgarian parts and have a good rep. Cost around $650+

SGL-31 is a Saiga conversion done by Arsenal. The stock rifle is made in the same factory in Russia that makes the AK-100 series. Cost $800+

My tantal was $400 two months ago from classicarms. You can sign up to get on their backorder list. I only waited about 2 weeks.

Look for a CAI Bulgarian . I paid 380 for 3 mags and a bayonet.

That was like two years ago. They don't offer that model anymore.

Century is a crap shoot.......or like a box of chocolates....

tantals keyhole. SOME are good, many have issues.

arsenals can have crappy triggers/other issues for the insane price.

By Waffen Werks, be happy :) $700 and they cant keep em in stock anywhere....try RRC firearms out of WA state. they are nice guys. also Atlantic Firearms if they have any.

here's my thread on the WW74 Poly :)

If you're paying $700 for a used kit gun, a little more will get you an SGL31. The kits WW uses aren't new like they advertise. They also use a barrel of unknown origin with an uncertain life expectancy.

Also, the Tantal issue is WAY overblown. They had problems, but they have been fixed now for the last couple years. Every Tantal I have owned has been solid.

It's pretty much I.O.'s version of the Waffen Werks 74. It's only parkerized, and not gunkoted like the WW, and there's no optics rail. If those things don't matter, the I.O. is a decent deal.

I would get an Interarms over an IO. Never heard anything good about them FWIW.

Oh, I agree. I would never get anything I.O. ever. Your money is better spent elsewhere.

If you can find a good used 74 for a lot less than an Arsenal, I would grab it.

Have you thought about the mag scarcity? The surplus magazines are pretty scarce, and they cost a lot more now on the secondary market.
