THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT This would be for recreation use, add to the collection and of course, cool factor and the random killing of zombies (let's be honest). Yes! I did read the sticky guide to AK's..twice! Thanks guys, Dan |

7.62 makes bigger holes. I would say go the 7.62 route to be more diverse.

To me, shooting an AR and a 5.56 AK will feel so similar that I just don't see much point in owning both rifles. I like my stuff to be a different shooting experience. I mean, if you're that worried about all your stuff shooting the same round, then stick with 5.56. If you want something that is actually different from what you already have, get a 7.62 AK.

go with the 7.62, its so much more fun to shoot than a 5.56 that you might sell off all your AR's like I did

You can always do what I did. Buy the 5.56 AK then later realize why even bother owning the AR.

Depends,
If you are going to get an SBR, a 12inch AK in 7.62 is the one to have. 12" AKs give up almost nothing in ballistic performance to 16s, while being much more handy and just as reliable (unlike shorty ARs). On the flip side, by staying in 5.56 and not having to get a second ammo stash, you could use that saved cash to get a reloading press and really stack it deep. |

Go with 7.62...Bigger holes, bigger fun. You also have many more reliable options in the magazine department. In recent times, there has also been quite a bit expansion in the types of ammo and bullets available for 7.62. I load all kinds of things, from 100 grain XTPs to 108 grain frangibles to 180 grain soft points in mine. My favorite AK though is the 5.45, and it's also the cheapest to shoot.

Everybody's 1st AK should be in 7.62x39 IMO. Just my opinion. However, in your situation, I'd say go 223/556 since you are already invested in that. I'd also do the AR mag adapter if I was in your position. Again, this is just what I would do.
