Ok so I sent in a PSL to a well known and respected gunsmith back in january to have the barrel and gas system chopped down because no one locally would do it (or at least I was not confident they could do so without mangling it). Before sending it in, I sent them an email and the owner assured me that they had a three month turn around time. So I sent it in and they had it on the 1/21/11 and sent me an invoice and called me up to make a payment.

Month Four

and I get a call about paying for the work. Told the girl that I had already done that back when I got the invoice. Sure enough I checked my records and they never did charge me. Apparently they had problems with a prior girl, so I sent payment information again.

Month Five

and I call inquiring about the status of my gun. They tell me that it is about to be worked on by the gunsmith and I should have it within a few weeks.

Month Six

I call again, they tell me it is in paint and should be sent out any day.

Month Seven

Call again, its in paint.

Month Eight

They call me, its the smith assigned to work on my gun calling to ask me about my build to get the details so he can work on it. Says he has four days to do the build, then its off to paint and I should get it in two weeks or less.

Month Nine

I call, and find they have a new policy. All status inquiries require a 48 hour call back time, so no one will even talk to me directly. After about a week of waiting for calls that never come I email the owner directly. Right away I get service and they call me back in the morning. Gun is in paint, should be sent out any day now.

Month Ten

Same thing, another week worth of calls and no one calling me back. Finally I get on there with an calm but clearly irritated attitude and insist that I speak to someone because they never have the courtesy to call me back. They say they will call me back shortly while they track down my order. Three hours later, I get a call telling me that my gun is in paint <SIGH!!!!> and that it needs to be reassembled and tested for quality control. I ask for firm specifics this time and they say give them exactly 7-14 days before calling again because it should be taken care of by then.


So here I am, sitting here exasperated and wanting my gun. Had I known it would take even half this long I would have sent it to another respectable gunsmith who has done several projects for me and has a very quick turn around time. I can forgive this company for being a bit slower than the time they quoted me due to their recent success, but the horrible customer service and huge delay is just unacceptable.

I am giving them two more weeks before I throw a complete shit fit. Anyone else think I am out of line? Advice?

I understand that they make some nice AK type weapons and saiga conversions, but I feel that that is the only strong point the shop has.  And in my opinion having a customer wait almost a year for a barrel cut/crown is beyond ridiculous.  If you had sent the barrel to ADCO to be cut you would have had it back in about 14 days.

Add in that every single MG that they built on the show fucked up on the range and had to be worked on several times before it would cycle properly, and they would have to call in a "specialist" (someone who knows what they are doing) in order to complete a build does not impress me at all

Then there was the 1000 yard AK that they never even shot at 1000 yards

And lets not forget the ridiculous pricing... $1850 for a "katana" AR15 that could be built with better parts for half the price

That looks like a nice rifle and I've heard nothing but good things about their builds but the show makes them (and all of us as gun owners) look like complete fucking idiots. it's sad that anybody would sell themselves out like that.

Clearly Flem did the work this time. But it took it going Kris the first time, then Vince got it but quit, then Flem was able to do it properly.

Guys, I felt it was past time to give ya’ll an update in what encompasses Red Jacket Firearms today! What started out with a small group has grown into a major endeavor. At last count, I think there was about 30 full time people here, a few part timers and a few subcontractors. We feel that the TV show has not kept up with what's actually happening here , instead , focusing on what they consider their core "cast" and some of the wilder custom and R&D stuff that comes along . Ya'll know all about that stuff, I want to take a minute and fill you in on "the rest of the story" :).
Off camera, we have two full production lines rolling in our second building and have just started dropping machinery in our third. This third building is larger than the first two combined and we're already wondering if we didn't sell ourselves short. The monthly growth we are experiencing typically happens in a time scale measured in years. This has not affected our commitment to detail, quality and customer service but rather has underlined it. The onslaught of orders, phone calls and e-mails was expected but it was also something that we were completely unable [financially] to prepare for.
It's been a hard task catching administration, much less infrastructure, up to the demand and frankly, we're just now getting a handle on it. We're hiring people as fast as we can; getting them trained and on the line/behind the desk and we are still lagging behind our goal. The [supposedly] simple task of something as mundane as a "status check" turns into a nightmare when you're sorting through 2000 [daily] e-mails , 5 phone lines that never stop and a constant crowd at the door that just want to "take a look around" . BTW, it's a rare find for a "phone girl" that understands firearm production and assembly ;) . We plug the holes as best we can, dealing with brushfires as they pop up while doing a systematic overall and redesign of the entire process. Meanwhile, we march forward; new facilities, new machinery and greatly enhanced capabilities. Our 1911 pistol , Piston AR , D.I. AR , Saiga , AK and Vepr furniture line , muzzle devices , new designs for our suppressors and a full accessory line are merely the beginning. Expect to see them on the shelf nationwide. All of the above however are an interim step. We have long range R&D project’s, some you've seen in our proof of concept builds, some you'll see pieces of and some we'll need to hold close till fully developed . Every day seems to open a new door; we owe all this to the people bought us here, you, our customers. You have our eternal gratitude and our commitment to be and do the very best for you that we possibly can. Thank you, Will
