THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT
The victim is my Romanian WASR AK-74 that has gone through many iterations. It is the one at the bottom before I changed it for the 6th time.

I made the stock myself and the workmanship is good enough for 3rd world country gun

With the ACE folding mechanism, It clears the left side with out issues.

The wood is laminated birch that was for an old project that I was gonna throw away, I decided to try it out and play with it.

The stock is NATO length so the length of pull is a little too long for me. I need to cut it down a little to make it more comfortable for me.

Compared to the Bulgarian, it is a little longer.

As far as how sturdy it is.... I really don't know. Right now, it is solid with no wobbles nor rattles. I tried to put some force into it and it seems to take it without any issues. I didn't try to pound it on something and I most likely will never do that. I am a desk jockey, a computer nerd specifically, so I really don't have the opportunity nor do I want to do real "work" with this AK. I would say it is good enough for a toy.

About the wood grip, there wasn't enough wood left to make a fat pistol grip. It is easily remedied with thicker wood [no pun intended], or I can put a plastic grip on. My plan is to replace it with something better later on, on ticker wood

I Like it!!

Looks like if you had to, you could fire it with the stock folded.

I have a SLR-95, and I'm always looking for new options.

Thanks

I dig it!

And I can't believe this hasn't been done before. Or has it? I like to think I've seen a lot of AKs, but I could well be wrong...

I believe I am the first one using the ACE mechanism. I know there was another one that was done with the russian folding mechanism.

Very nice job! I thought of doing that a couple years ago, but was too lazy to implement my cunning scheme.

Couldn't you just drill, screw and Gorrilla Glue the stock from where it connects to the mechanism? You could have cut it down from that side and eliminated half of that "tab" inletting.

fwiw, you should consider cutting a piece of metal to put into that inletting, and tap a small screw into the top of the folder mechanism. It would look better, and maybe even add a little rigidity.

It ain't what you don't know that gets you into trouble. It's what you know for sure that just ain't so.

I have seen pics of one other guy who did the same thing with the ACE, but I must say that your execution is flawless and beautiful.

Someone could make good money offering these, I was going to do the very same thing for my M92 Yugo, even have a stock stained to match, just need to drill the mounting holes...

Yeah, you took the worst thing about the AK grip and made it worster.

Otherwise, the stock is quite cool.

Show off the wood folding stock vs getting more material to make another grip.... show off the wood folding stock won

Good job! I remember maybe a year ago someone posted up a wood stock that used the factory 5.5mm folding stock trunion and it really looked amazing.

I'm not a huge fan of the look (I think I'm just used to seeing Polymer folders), but I definitely admire the ingenuity and craftsmanship. Nice work!

wtf is wrong with that grip? :)
Good job on the work. I personally do not like the ACE mechanism as it is rather flimsy, but you get an A+ for an effort.
P.S. I did see this before, the guy used wood screws counter sunk from the back end.

Replaced the home made scrap grip with a new one I've just ordered. Next step will be building a shorter stock with a different way to mount it.

Glad you changed the grip. That had to be the ugliest thing I've ever seen on a weapon.

Thanks for that. It may be the answer to a project I'm working on.

+1 Stock looks close to perfect. The grip that you had on there at first was causing me pain, but the current one looks nice, yet different. Good job.
