I find the AFG to be really comfortable, however i can understand how some may not like it.
I have an AFG on two different rifles and so far every person i have let shoot them either hates it, thinks it is a marketing ploy, or just cant figure out how to hold it

I have a few questions about your setup H20_MAN, since mine is similar.

1. did you cut off the lower handguard retainer? is there really much benefit in doing so?
2. what are your thoughts on co-witnessing with the fully hooded front sight? Do you find it getting in the way much when not looking down the irons, or is it not really noticeable due to how your eye is focused?

My latest effort to keep up with H20

1. I cut nothing.

2. I don't notice the hooded front sight when the Optic is turned on.

Great looking AK!
What did you use as the host? ChiCom or other?
What light and mount?

I put the Aimpoint on there for the sake of taking pictures and to see how it mounts on the new Ultimak. It's already zeroed for an AR and went back on the AR after I was done snapping pics. I'm getting a Trijicon Reflex for the AK when I can fund it. This is probably as much as I'll change on this rifle... Although I am considering a more comfortable grip.

Is the Aimpoint low enough to cowitness irons?

Bulgarian Flash Hider. Even without the spacer it's still a little too high to co-witness, unfortunately.

I see you have the Krebs rail? DOes it heep the scope zeroed very well after moving up and down to take the ak apart?

Yes, I've had no re-zero issues.  I have the Gen-I rail which sits on a lslightly arger dolls head in the tang.  Gen-IIs have readier serrated windage and elevation adjustments and a pin-type lockdown.

I occaisonally take the T1 off and just shoot the irons.  That longer sight radius is the tits.

I see you have the PWS FSC47 too.  I absolutely love mine

I do not usually like AR stocks or full rail systems on an AK but damn I am just drooling over this right now.  It looks like a different gun.

It's a pistol that requires no tax stamp, but it becomes an SBR as soon as you install a butt stock.

Yep.  I Draco is sold as a handgun.  Get your tax stamp, add a buttstock... instant SBR.

Not sure how his is done, but I've seen them where the Ace hinge mechanism was just bolted directly to the rear plate of the Draco trunnion.

Like stated above, I don't usually care for AR buttstocks or railed HGs on AKs but this one does look "right".

I said the same thing... then a buddy loaned me his for a weekend.

Then I got my own and did some mods to it, trimmed it up so a TLR-1 fits right up next to it, cut off the front 2" because I only use the angled part.  It is not as awkward or uncomfortable as you think and really allows you to control your muzzle.

Get over yourself and really give it a try before you shit on it.

I have tried it...on a M4 type.  No thanks.

this is about as useful as "AK RECOIL BUFFERS".

If a $3 piece of plastic REALLY enhanced ones grip and the ergonomics of rifles, it would of been invented awhile ago.  I dont see this AFG as a groundbreaking piece.  Its more a fad.  That is my opinion of course.

http://img192.imageshack.us/img192/6264/afg41tfbtm.jpg

That's a pretty impressive statement of personal ignorance...  Oh well, nothing new here.

The AFG has been debated to death on the AR boards.  Do a search there.  Basically its a product that facilitates the hand forward grip that has been developed, and proved, by the competitive (read 3 Gun) community to be one of the most effective means of controlling recoil and muzzle jump and indexing the muzzle quickly between multiple targets.  This grip has finally made its way into the mainstream of military training and shooting.

And like most all the other innovations developed in the competition sports which have become mainstream like red dot sights and muzzle brakes and free float fore-ends...its amazing to  those with simple minds to small to imagined it themselves, that it could work at all...

Red dot sights, free float fore ends, and muzzle breaks all easily show a quantifiable improvement for their intended purpose.  The AFG is not going to make everyone faster, more accurate, or "better" simply by sticking it on the rail.  Even Magpul recommends training in order to receive a benefit from the AFG.   If you like the AFG that is great but it doesn't make someone ignorant for not agreeing with you.  As for it being a fad I think maybe it is.  There are alot of people bolting these to rifles who can afford the AFG but cannot afford $100 of ammo or the Magpul Dynamics videos  to "train" with the AFG.

That's awesome and inexpensive!

I see the pistol for sale under $400.00... this could be my next AK build
and I think it would make a fine companion for my Norinco T56SHTF

I'm pretty much an AK purist, but I absolutely love what you did with that Draco. Ya got me thinking about buying one now. I even like the buttstock, which pretty much goes against my beliefs.

Yeah, as far as SBRs go, this is a relatively easy and inexpensive route to take.  I almost took the plunge a few months ago after seeing another similar Draco SBR, but then I talked myself out of it.  I ended up deciding that i didn't want to spend the $200, and do all the paperwork for a rifle with more legal restrictions, just to save a few inches in OAL.  I sometimes do some interstate traveling with my firearms and just don't want to deal with the hassles of a SBR, or having to leave my favorite rifle at home.  I have a feeling that if I built one of these it would be my favorite.

Seeing one like this does make my more sensible side a little less persuasive though.

Maybe one of these days.

The AFG is not a fad. It's a solution to a problem some people are having. I myself switched to the AFG after using a VFG and a KAC handstop. Both were "okay" except they caused me gradual wrist pain and made my middle and ring fingers fall asleep. The AFG solved both issues.

I like this one the best, can you share with us where you got those components?

I have mine dressed up with fiberforce stuff and it looks "okay" but I really like what you've done there, and would like to one day copy you because I'm unoriginal like that :).
