This was my baby, until I lost my job a couple years ago and sold it to a friend to pay some bills.
Now that he's bought an AR I'm hoping I'll get a chance to buy it back from him.

My WASR 10-63 i just bought tuesday (9/7) and i just finished putting it back togther after completely tearing it down,
solvent washing and compressed air cleaning all metal, scubbed it good and refinishing the wood.
I have a nice shop and i washed it in solvent, scubbed it good, blew off with compressed air.

Are you asking about the rifle above.Texjames's WASR?
If so i sanded it down with 180 and 120 and 600 sandpaper. I wiped the bare wood throughly with acetone to remove any oils.
I stained it with Old Masters Cherry wiping stain. I let that dry 12 hours then wiped it down and smoothed the fisnish with 00 steel wool.
I then Put a coat of Birchwood Casey Sealer& Filler on, set for two hous,Then put on one light coat  of
Birchwood Casey Tru-Oil Stock finish with my finger...no brush....set up two hours.I then buffed off most of the high gloss with
00 steel wool to get a semi-gloss appearance.
laying out in the sun here...

Guess I'll trot the old girl out again. She started out as a Weaponeer group buy '74 non-"G" Romy kit. Except for the receiver and mag, that's the original finish, as delivered from I/O. Still my most accurate 7.62x39.

The stain is food coloring mixed with denatured alcohol and rubbed in with a rag. let dry overnight and 8 coats of spray polyurethane.
