Here is what's going on. The AK is being developed by Jim Weishuhn who owns Erie Ordnance Depot out of Oak Harbor, Ohio. Eagle106 is helping him with developing the proprietary parts for the AK.
http://shop.erieordnancedepot.com/ The AK that you see in the pictures is a concept design made from a modified AK74 bolt and a PPSH barrel. The thing runs well and is a blast to shoot. It however does have a few issues. The thing runs hard. It has beaten up a rear trunnion already from the bolt slamming so hard and it is wearing out the holes in the trigger pins. They have added a buffer and are hoping that a heavier bolt and maybe a heavier spring will help with this. All in all these are minor issues which should be solved soon. Now about the purchasing the gun. They pretty much have the design down pat but are having trouble finding people willing to make the parts. Other than that the rifle should be on the market very soon. If, however you are very desperate for an AK in the inexpensive and powerful 7.62x25 cartridge Jim is willing to make some rifles with modified AK74 bolts for you. Doing so will really help with getting some money to get the project off the ground. The upside to being the "guinea pig" per-se is that the rifle can be pretty much customized to whatever you want. Folding stock, vertical grip, fake can, Duracote, you name it he can do it for you and make your rifle to order. If you are interested please give Jim a call at 567-262-3601. Also, in June Jim will get his SOT so you NFA boys can order your AK ala SBR if you want.

It uses PPSH mags. We don't know of a price yet but ballpark it around $700 to $800 dollars.

The magazines upon closer examination appear to be from the PPs-43, NOT the PPsH-41. Big difference. They are not interchangeable.

Really nice looking build.
You could eliminate the problems from battering the action if you went gas operated (I'm assuming it's blowback operated now). |

I had to add a 9mm ejection port cover and deflector to mine to make it south paw friendly. After tweaking the magazines a bit it seems to run fine. |

Sounds like the recoil spring is to soft. Also that souldn't cause the FCG pin holes to wear out, that sounds like soft metal. Was it built from a flat or 100% receiver? |

Just a thought but I would imagine this system would work as a blowback operated gun. Typically, the gas operated system hasn't been practical for sub-guns. A good example of something very akin to this is the Russian PP-19 "Bizon" submachine gun. It's little more than an AKS-74U scaled down with a blowback operated principal. The Russians have had some success with this gun and I should point out that it's made in 9x18, 9x19, and yes 7.62x25 Tokarev. Obviously, the magazines are different but it works about the same as what this modified AK does. Anybody know this gun? Although, if a version was ever sold here (which we know we'll never see it) it would nullify this project but I still think it's pretty cool that somebody took the initiative to develop this and modify it. Especially considering it's been proven that it works!

I'd pick one up in a heartbeat for $700-$800.
To paraphrase another poster, I'd probably rip my pants trying to get my wallet out fast enough. Hell I wouldn't rule out the idea of putting some money down, given a solid price tag and ballpark delivery estimate. Seems like that would be a valid way to fund the initial builds, if he needs the money. I imagine that others here would be willing to, as well. |

We should know by the end of the week if the machinist we are currently talking to will help us out or not.
The current bolt design is pretty much a drop in replacement of the regular AK boltcarrier. The only changes would be a different barrel and a magwell modification. So a conversion is definitely possible. We will know for sure after testing. |

ETA: I just saw the cost of 7.62 Tok... I'm saving for one. I just spent $90 on 300 rds of 9mm. 7.62 Tok is $130 for 1200+ rounds. I'm up for one... if I can get the cash together.

I am definitely going to buy SOMETHING that shoots 7.62x25 in the next two months. I had been waiting almost 2 years for Marty to go into production and then all of a sudden there are no less than 3 options that popped up in the last few weeks. An x25 AK would definitely be at the top of my list assuming it is at the $600 or below price tag. I am also seriously thinking about the AR upper made by Ron Williams. My only problem with that is the idea of cleaning corrosive from an AR is just not too appealing (and the cost of both the upper and mag block). And then tonight I just found the group buy for the side-fed uppers over at Gunco. Only $400 and all you do is slap it on an AR lower and it is ready to rock and roll !!!!! Way lower cost than any other AR upper I have seen, no mag-block to deal with, and looks to be easy to clean. The only drawback is the mag sticks out to the side like a Sten. Supposedly another one is in the works that uses a drum. Decisions, decision, decisions.

From what I can see and what's been posted re: function problems, it's very apparent to me that the recoil spring is not strong enough by a considerable amount. In the gas-operated rifle, the locked bolt keeps the highest pressure in the barrel until after the bullet has passed the gas port, thus requiring a more moderate spring rate. In the blowback system, the spring rate is the only thing keeping the bolt closed, and yours is not accomplishing that. I was immediately struck by the large volume of exhaust from the chamber. Battering and excessive bolt speed (30' ejection) are also indicators.

So we provide a functional AKS-74u and do the following: press out barrel, buy/install new Virgin barrel, find/get someone to make bolt, buy/install magazine conversion and buy the parts (springs) necessary for it to function properly???? How the hell is this not going to Cost a minimum of $2,000 Maybe im confused, but damn i just dont see it.
K-Var does not have Krinkov kits available... hmmm, This may work out when the kits come out w/o barrels...................... But where are these kits/parts again? hehe Gunbroker 
Hopefully, this would work better on a 7.62 model and use its barrel in some modified way. $2,000 for today's prices right, wrong, close, or maybe not even that low/high???
