It appears that the Attero Arms mount is much better than the MI micro dot mount. I'm pretty much settled on a Burris FastFire 3. Should I get the Attero Arms mount with or without a hood to protect the FF3?

Get the hood. I have one of the rare LaRue "AK Iron Dot" mounts with the Burris Fast Fire. It incorporated the hood into the mount. It has save the optic on a couple of occasions.

Hood is ugly, but you can always take it off if you dislike it...

Does the hood follow the lines of the FF III or is it just a big square?
For the FF III, if you're going to use it for hard use, I'd spend the extra $20 to get it.
IF it was an RMR or a T1 I wouldn't.  I'd be torn on the Leuopold.

You could always fab something up yourself if you had the time and inclination.
