It is really a nice MRD optic that is built to handle rough treatment. I chose the low profile version with the outstanding LaRue mount/optic shroud that's built around the Pride & Fowler MRD. In the upper right pic that I have added to the overall master pic, there is something that might, or not, be something that one might consider to be a bad thing, but then again it may be no big deal at all depending upon the application of the weapon with this particular optic. It has an on/off switch and two other on options. If the optic is turned off then the on/off switch is fully slid to the left. When you move the switch to the right, which is in the middle position, then the optic is in auto-adjustment mode for the dot (the red dot increases or decreases in intensity depending upon it's built in sensor), move the on/off switch to the right one more final time and the optic is set for full on and full brightness of the red dot. I do believe that this optic has a 5 MOA pulse LED. This LaRue Tactical / Pride Fowler Mini Red Dot is a very small, yet strong and robust optic. Looking at it on the web and actually having it in your hand is a huge difference, as I have truly found that this optic is very nice and built like a baby tank. In this picture I am showing a SureFire E2D light affixed to a LaRue Tactical LT-707 in-line mount, but I do alternate a LaRue Harris Bipod QD mount with a Harris Bipod. Then again sometimes I'll have both the light and LT Harris Bipod mount both hooked up to the 6 O'clock rail. Usually that light or a model E2DL is on this weapon most of the time. Originally I was going to keep my Aimpoint T-1 Micro with the very low mount on this Romanian pistol, but once I really got to examining the T-1, I decided that I would rather have it for one of my several AR 15's. Now the T-1 is truly the best MRD that I have ever seen or had the pleasure to own. But this LT Pride Fowler is a damn good optic and is a very nice match to this weapon. The optic takes the 3 V lithium coin sized 1632 battery. You do not have to take the optic off to replace the battery, which I did do a test with the supplied Jap 1632 battery. I'm hoping that it will get better with the new Swiss 1632 battery, the reason I say this is because the original battery lasted about 1 month with it continually on, most of the time in the always on setting of this MRD switch, which would be fully slid to the right position from the on/off adjustment sliding switch. Caliber of pistol is 5.56 x 45 mm or .223. http://www.50magnum.com/mrdpf1.jpg Which fore grip is that on there.? I think for the AK pistol the top rail fore grip is the best way to mount a red dot? I was going to try one of those NC Star top covers with the rail mount, but seems that a scope on the top hand guard is the way? |

I forgot the company or brand as I just grabbed it out of my spare parts. I agree the top is obviously best. I used to use scopes, but I have MRDs for my AK's - YMMV |

Wow, I thought I was King Shit with my AKS-74 and Russian red-dot but the guy with the AK-74N just beat me hands down. That thing is historically right on the money. I don't know if I would have thrown the RPK mag in there (mostly because it makes an AK a little unweildy in my opinion) but I love it. You got the grips and everything dead on. Unbelievably beautiful!
p.s. If you haven't yet seen, or don't own, 9th Company (Dyevta Rota) yet you need to get it. They've got a scene in there with a guy using the same rifle/scope AK-74N configuration. Best movie ever to come out of Russia. |

Hey GDubya, I got my NSPU ordered via e-bay and am planning on putting wooden 74 handguards on my current model. I think I'm going to break down in a few months and order one of those Saiga SGL-31's they just came out with. Have myself a real deal Russian 74 and see if I can find a plastic folder backstock. I'll configure it straight out AK-74M. By the way, the NSPU wasn't cheap but it's a HELLUVA lot cheaper than an American made NV scope.

Details on that mount please? It looks like it has an A2 sight built in? |

I'm pretty sure the sight is no longer available though. I bought mine from a member on another forum,Toten Kopf, who used to sell them. Here's a link to some of his pics. The mount takes the place of the original rear sight leaf assembly and requires a small amount of fabrication to adapt it. Nothing any AK builder worth his salt couldn't handle. BTW, Cool avatar! Looks like something from DOOM. |

Nice setup. What kind of light mount is that? I really like the way the light is positioned.
