What magazines would work in a .223/5.56 WASR?

Weiger Mags worked in mine, as well as the ones that came with the WASR.

Weiger are THE mag for the WASR.  I have several they all work great.  If you can find any they will cost about $50.

Promag makes a mag that works well. They are all plastic with no steel reinforcement so they are good for range mags only.  In my WASR-3 I would need to file down the underside of the feed lips to get the cartridges sit high enough for the bolt to pick them up.  I didn't do that. I just use them in my Saiga.

Years ago, I bought a dozen AK-74 5.45 mags and installed special followers (Robarms).  About half feed really well. The other half routinely cause feed problems.  At this point that's academic, 74 mags got really expensive and those followers haven't been available for years.

The Bulgarian 5.56 mags don't fit in my wasr.  There is a cross support pin that gets in the way. I think if I filed away a little material off the back of the mag they would fit. But I have enough other mags that I don't need to. I also only use them my Saiga.

Are WASR - 3 rifles currently imported?

If not, when will imports resume?

The WASR/SAR-3s were imported during the late 90's/early 2000's.

I wouldn't hold my breath on new ones.

The Romanian made copies of the Weiger mags fit and function also.
They came in 10 and 30rd capacities.

I ordered several of these - some came in original wax paper 4-packs.  If you have a C&R or 01 FFL you get a great deal on them as well (although the price without is the best I have seen in a while).
