I'll preface this as this being my first post, so please take it easy on me.

I've owned a Norinco AK platform rifle for a number of years and have had the same 3 mags for it since the day I bought it, in an effort to expand my magazine collection I've been trying to find some mags that will work with the gun.

I would like to avoid buying original Norinco mags if possible as they're expensive, does anyone know of an alternative that would work with the gun? I'm open to suggestions that require modifications to the magazines as well.

Best are circle (10) bulgarian but more expensive than other fine options. Any european steel mag should work fine in it and cost the least. Pmags are soon to be available in steel reinforcement but seems only the all polymer options are publcly available for now, these seem to be fine. Stay away from Promag and other cheap plastic magazines.

is the gun 5.56? expensive and norinco aren't really two words that go together when describing magazines unless the gun is 5.56

I wondered this as well . If the gun is 7.62 there are a of lot very reasonable options

Chinese bakelite mags are rather pricey

The metal flatbacks command a premium

I was getting Chinese 7.62 mags for $10, but last week at the monthly gun show Chinese mags have jumped in price to $13. Still pretty reasonable.  GARY

If 7.62, grab some Tapco slabsides on sale somewhere for < $7. They're durable enough, reliable enough, and cheap enough that you don't mind practicing with them and banging them around. In my experience (and to my surprise), I have also had fewer fitment issues with these than virtually any other mag I own beside my bakelites.

I bought more than I will ever need, & even got some of these which do not have the normal reinforced top.  GARY
