I bought 6 new AK PMAGs to use at a class I recently took.

Results:

1 Mag had a serious crack in the feedlips one hour into class, from being dropped once. This causes the magazine to vomit rounds when it was loaded and disturbed or bumped. Fed fine.
2 Mags could not be loaded to more than 27 rounds, or they would fail to feed, jamming the carrier.
1 Mag had extreme issues seating into the mag release area. It had to be forcibly seated. Fed fine.
1 Mag had issues seating into the forward section of the magwell. It had to be forcibly seated. Fed fine.
1 Mag could be loaded to 30 rounds, fit and fed reliably.

Also had a brand new US Palm mag, it worked fine. Had a Yugo steel mag, it worked fine. No issues except with PMAGs.

Interesting.  Please contact us for replacements to try as we'd like to get these back for evaluation (I haven't seen a broken feedlip yet on one).  Were they only used in one weapon?

Are the new steel reinforced AK Pmags going to have steel lined feed lips?

Thank you so very much for your response, quite honestly I'm stunned that someone from MagPul responded.

They were brand new in the package at the beginning of the day and used in one rifle, an Arsenal.

If you needed 3 parts to make part count, it might make sense to you.

I would try to find three other parts to swap out, the magazine is too important for proper functioning to mess with IMO.

understand your point though.

There are of course US made followers and floorplates which will add a couple parts, and I can't picture those affecting the functioning, I have several mags i've done up like that and they've worked flawlessly so far, this is a good easy route to go if you are trying to retain some other foreign parts that are more important to you to keep.

Some folks want to keep the original fire control group and an American mag lets that happen.

I changed my FCG just so I could use any mag.

But some folks would be challenged to change their FCG.
