I picked up 10 surplus mags and wondered what the best way to clean them is, I have heard that kerosene works well, what other products are you guys using?
One thought is put them assembled in a bucket, let them soak then disassemble wipe down coat them in protectant and reassemble.  Then apply what product to keep them in good shape?

So what did others do?

Lots of CLP, couple of toothbrushes, old rags. (I bought "my ten" from sgammo.com, pretty rust free, so it wasn't too hard).

I used degreaser, followed by a water rinse, then dried them off and lubed with CLP to keep them protected against rust.

Maybe I took the hard way, but I like that my mags no longer smell like a Milsurp warehouse

Diesel fuel works pretty good.

Brake parts cleaner is pretty good too, but it gets expensive after a while.

The easiest way is to stick the mag bodies in the dishwasher.

I used Ballistol with good results..... Disassemble, spray Ballistol on, let it soak, and wipe down.... Make sure you get the inside of the mag as well...... Then you reassemble and youre good to go....

I'm going to give boiling water a shot for my next batch. That seems to entail the least amount of elbow grease.

I had good results soaking them in lamp oil.

Soak for a while and scrub w/toothbrush in Mineral Spirits, then a quick rinse with brake parts cleaner.
Thin coat of motor oil on the outside for storage.
Probably not the cheapest or simplest way though...

I disassemble mine and put them in a bucket with 50/50 mineral spirits and water.  I let them soak for a bit, wipe them down, and spray some CLP on them.
