What were genuine AK-74 Russian 30 round bakelites fetching before the current (relative) drought we now face? I see them going for $45-$60 a piece, today. Were they ever cheap and plentiful?

I remember Bulgarian and E. German mags going for $8 a pop, but never Russian ones.

I paid $135 shipped (4 pack) for mint Izzy AK74 Bakelites last summer. I've never seen them below $35 +/- for mint condition unless you bought them from Vladimir before the Ukrainian government took over.

I believe I bought some EG bakelites from either What a Country or APEX that were painted over for $18 a piece two years ago. Used some Citristrip on them and they cleaned up nicely.

kicking myself in the ass for not buying them when the $8 were around. then i started seeing them talking about the 74 on tv shows as a great cost saver to shooting sports, and all of the sudden they are selling out everywhere.

Five years ago, I was getting 4 packs for $20.00. I wish I still had some. I would make ton of money.

This was a fond memory. I should have bought 1000 dollars worth.

Another thread to frustrate the hell out of me.

Seeing as I have a couple of hundred BRAND NEW Russian 5.45 mags in the dark plum polymer to get rid of.

But......................................I am in the UK

If you guys ever get to London on vacation, look me up

Back before the glut of Bulgarian AK74 and Polish Tantal kits, you could pick up EG and Russian bakelite mags for $4 - $5 each at most of the usual retailers. I remember a dealer at a gunshow back then selling lots of 30 for $100 and not getting any takers. Dealers often couldn't give the damn things away since there were very, very few 5.45x39 rifles on the market.

Heck, even 3 or 4 years ago, they were less than $10 each. ORF was selling 4 packs with a mag pouch and cleaning kit for $19.99, but most were polymer. A few were the "painted" Bakelite mags, though.

You can always ship them disassembled in two packages, and cross your fingers

Ohio rapid fire had 12 mags in 3 pouches for 36 bucks , they were bulgarian
If I remember correctly Russian mags have always been in the 50 dollar ball park , but you could find deals once in awhile
Never bought any 30 round Russian 74 mag as the eg were way cheaper and looked and worked just as good I've got a few 45 rounder though from rapid fire to think they were about 55 bucks

Ignore that guy, B_R! He meant to say that they're going for between $5.00 and $7.50, so around six bucks a piece. You need to adjust accordingly.

Any guy who wants to fly over here and do a face to face deal, can have as many as he wants for $7.50 each - literally as many as he wants

I'm sure i would just hate a trip to Russia or Eastern Europe. All the things i would LIKE to have back home and no way to get them back because of red tape.
