The bakelites just became popular recently for some reason, probably due to aesthetics. Not long ago, when 5.45x45 ammo and rifles were relatively scarce, dealers couldn't give away those bakelite mags. You could buy them at gunshows all day long for $5 or less. Now they bring $30+ each. Go figure...

I still cant figure out why East German bakelites fetch a premium since they are some of the most common AK 74 mags in the country.
