Get one of these instead, and use regular AR mags with your WASR3. You'll want AR2KU223.

Post up a WTT on the forums maybe. A guy I know on another forum traded 8 "Chinese Yugoslavian" magazines for a Chinese 223 mag not too long ago. Don't know if that's true value though as they came from a crate he bought for $5 per mag

yeah i was having a hard time finding weiger mags to. only place that has them is a place called akparts .net or something like that i forget they wanted 49$ a piece for romie weigers screw them. i have 5 romie weigers and wanted a couple more but not at that price. i have a slr 106 and use circle 10 mags. so i got to thinking why cant i use these mags in my wasr-3 well i can. the black circle 10 30 rounders anyways with only a little fitting they pop in and out like the weigers. the smoke 20s are still a little to tight to be tacticle but at least now both my 5.56 ak's can use the same magazines and the black circle 10's are mil-spec and redely avaible midway has them for $26.99 with very resonable shipping hope this help's

Actually if it is a 'Polytech' 223 chinese mag you can get 4 Weigers for it as they sell for $100+ each where the 'Norinco' 223 chinese mags are bringing around $50 each.
That is the major bear with 223 AK's as there is virtually no common mag for ALL. Heck just the two different types just for the Chinese ones is a pain in the butt. |

Worked this out; Thank you atomicfacepalm!
New question; who here has experience with Promgas? They claim that they're for the WASR-3, but a lot of people are saying they've had to do a lot of work to get them to fit. Another new question; would a Polish Beryl magazine work? The seller claims thet they work with all 5.56 AKs. I don't think that's possible because there is no 5.56 AK magazine standard.Link to Beryl magazines Polish Beryl 5.56x45mm 30rd Magazine. This magazine is current issue for Polish forces. Original Polish production from the RADOM factory. Stock up while you can. This is the best quality AK 5.56 magazine available anywhere. Will fit all AK 5.56 variants |

I'm gonna pull the trigger on a Promag the next time my friend does a Midway order. For $15, it's worth the risk.

Promag inbound from Midway. Really hoping it works with no hassle or at least minimal hassle.

The Weiger's really are the best option for WASR-3's. Sometimes they pop up on GunBroker, so keep an eye out there. I was fortunate enough to stock up several months ago when Apex had them.
I also have several of the ProMag polymer ones from Midway. They would not seat or feed when I first got them, but with some trial and error and a Weiger to compare to, I was able to remove material here and there to get them to function smoothly. The main problem was that the gap between the rear of the feed lips was not cut deeply enough, so the bolt would drag over it and catch. Also, there was too much material on both the front and rear catch preventing it from locking into place, and I had to chamfer the underside of the feed lips to allow the rounds to sit a little higher. This may or may not be the case on your rifle, but for mine each mag took a substantial amount of fitting. Plus, I went over the entire inside with some very fine grit sandpaper and removed the molding lines and any burrs I came across. After all this, however, I am pleased to say that they now function perfectly. I took several of them to the range a few months ago and came back with zero malfunctions. I wouldn't want to depend on them lasting forever, since the plastic feed lips will probably fatigue and crack over time, but as range mags or reserve "just-in-case" mags, they will work fine. |

My ProMag arrived from Midway yesterday. I was able to get it to lock into the rifle with minimal fitting; the rear magazine catch tab had to be filed a little bit and now it goes in and out smoothly. I bump fired 30 rounds without a problem, so I ordered three more ProMags at $10 a piece from JSE Surplus this morning. They definitely feel kind of brittle and prone to breaking, but I think that with some care they'll work fine as range magazines.
Really wishing that I had bought a few more Weiger mags from Apex when they had them, but these ProMags really seem to be the next best thing and the price is reasonable. |

Glad to hear your ProMags didn't require as much fitting as mine did. Maybe they have changed the design since I bought mine a couple years ago.

I could have filed about 1/8" off of the mag catch and the ProMags would have fit perfectly, unmodified, but I'd rather mess with the magazines than the rifle, because it locks up perfectly with Weiger magazines, the mags it was designed for.

Thanks! I'll be watching that auction. Had 3 more ProMags show up today. They required the same fitting as the previous one. They're ridiculously easy to file and feel weak, but I feel like if they get me through the summer shooting season they will have been worth it. I won't even start using the Weigers until these wear out.

Absolutely correct. The ONLY magazine I know of for TOTAL correct function and reliability in the SAR-3 and the WASR-3. Also, for the 5.56 STG-2000 if you remember those rifles - and they weren't all that numerous and not to be confused with the STG-2003 which was 7.62. Hunt until you can find a few. Three of them would probably do you for a good while unless you are shooting a very lot. |

I don't think I've paid more than $40/ea for any of mine, and I thought that was pushing it. |

Please don't modifiy the chinese mag. They used to do that back when the chinese mags were cheep. At the last gun show a guy had a modified and an unmodified one. The modified one was $15.00 and the unmodified one $70.00.
