CDNN blows 99% of gun vendors out of the water when it comes to shipping. The magazines all came individually bagged, which was the first time I've bought surplus magazines that were dirt cheap. It does seems that any magazine that had ANY rust or pitting was thrown into the $6.88 pile. The worst magazine had a stuck follower that functions just fine after a sharp blow from a hammer and some steel wool. The best has a single dime sized rust spot on the base of the magazine. The most interesting magazine has the numbers "23" stenciled on the bottom left side of the magazine. Was it a rack number, somebody's favorite athlete, or just maybe an armory marker. I'll keep that one with its original finish. Most showed what you would expect from issued magazines that feed corrosive ammunition: corrosion on the feed lips and follower. There was a single magazine that was pitted in the front of the magazine in the manner I have seen firearms with blood splatter pitted. I'm thinking with two hours of work that these should all be GTG. I'll post some pics later if I have time. I would buy more if funds allowed it. |

They're going to get ran through the parts cleaner and then they have a date with some Scotch-Brite. I had loft aspirations of refinishing them with another 10 AK mags I had, but they'll probably just get hit with some of the industrial spray paint we've got at the shop to stop the rust. I'll try and get some pics up tonight.
ETA: Not going to be cleaning these anytime soon. It looks like I'm going to have to do the disassembly of the magazines before I take them to the shop. Our shop is in sunny, beautiful Aurora, Illinois, where magazines more than 15 rounds are illegal. I live outside of Aurora where I can legally possess the magazines.

The magazine is reinforced with stainless steel in three critical areas, the feed lips, front locking lug and rear locking lug. Testing has shown that polymer feed lips fail when faced with multiple impacts or extreme loads.
