Case ruptures are bad in any action, my milled receiver took the brunt. Small crack, my 'smith is tig welding it back into shape. I had run about 400 rounds with no problem, mix of brass and steel cased. On the range session I had shot 80 Tulammo, 40 Monarch, first round of M67 - Kaboom.
Any ideas as to what may have influenced this ? M67 doesn't have a bad reputation for ruptures.

First I've heard of any; what rifle where you using?

I don't know of any "Project Eldest Son" lots of M67.

One case separation cracked the receiver?   I would not trust that receiver.

Not a case separation/ case rupture is a wholly different thing.

I have one of these rifles as well. My first suggestion is to check the head space. Go/NoGo gauges aren't real expensive and afford some peace of mind.
Hopefully it was just a fluke, sorry your rifle took a beating, but better it than you.

Never heard of a problem with M67. Is it possible the case was damaged prior to firing?

I guess it's possible, but not likely.

You've got those backwards.  The rupture is a full failure of the round.  The case separation is the almost clean break where the brass was weak.

Rupture is generally from a way over pressured round.

Case separation is from a weak spot in the brass, generally from reloading.

Most likely a gun or operator problem.
