That was a great read. I had also noticed that the cartridge case and bullet type designation were switched on the can. I was not able to narrow down which year that occurred but always thought that it was weird that they used their nomenclature in reverse order to begin with. I am so glad I stocked up on this ammo back when it was around $0.10 per shot.  I stacked about 10 cans of this and have enough for the rest of my life and my kids life too.

Was there actually a 2nd part to the article...or is it there and I'm not seeing it?

If anyone finds any of the Lugansk (270) made '87 to '91, don't shoot it! It's a valuable collectible, worth far more than standard 7N6 with the improved bullet, very rare in the U.S.

Are you talking about the 7N6M ?

ETA I have some 270/88 5.45 in my ammo collection. didn't realize they were special.

Yes, 270 from '88 would be it. I'd be willing to make you an offer if you're interested in selling.

I examined some 270 88 from my own collection and found it to be typical 7n6. In asking around my European cartridge collector contacts, they informed me that the Soviets/russians never really fully transitioned to 7n6M, so it is not likely to be encountered. It's possible and if someone actually has verifiable specimens here in the US, I'd like to see evidence.

Isn't it AP?

Sad to see the Russians gank the lugansk cartridge works during the war. They loaded up all the equipment and drove it to Russia in a "Humanitarian convoy".

They were working on some big stuff for civi's in 5.45 the 69gr was just the first of several civilian ans military improvements they were working on.
