7.62x39 sails through both doors (sides) of a car...easily

Yeah, penetration is not really a problem with this caliber. I seem to recall stories about 7.62x39 penetrating the aluminum armor of Marine AAVs in the early days of the Iraq war, though I have no personal knowledge of that.

Just a thought. You could use pulled .30 AP or tungsten hunting bullets for better penetration. Accuracy probably will be shitty .308 bullet out of a .311 but it maybe an interesting experiment.

Probably not going to work the best, and IIRC, not exactly legal (something about manufacturing AP ammo blah blah blah FBHO). ETA: Check out your local shows or gunbroker for Chinese mild steel core. It'll do the job, and then some. |
