Shot my Saiga AK today,first time in about 8 months.  In giving it a look over before shooting I noticed the piston has either some build up of pitting.  This rifle has less then 1000 rounds through it.

Is this what it looks like when you shoot corrosive ammo, I am wondering if I may have shot some with out knowing.

Just needs to be cleaned.    Not corrosive ammo.

Or not...that tiny bit of build up won't hurt anything.

Use the mouth of a used brase case as a scraper to remove the carbon build up.  It will easily take the carbon off without damaging the piston.

Dunk the piston in a bottle of Hoppes #9 solvent.Let it sit for 5-10 minutes.

Wipe off with rag.
