THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT http://www.hornady.com/store/7.62X39-ammo/ Is Z-max just a slightly hotter loaded SST with a green tip or is it something else (like a V-MAX)? Thanks! ETA: OK, did some more digging on the Hornady site: http://www.hornady.com/store/.310-7.62/ From the LOOKS of it Z-MAX is identical to V-MAX, although it would be nice to know if they are in fact the same bullet, which would be a rapidly expanding varmit bullet (good for blowing up zombie skulls, I suppose). Would like to see some serious ballistic gel tests with this Z-MAX to see if it's suitable for (real world) defensive purposes. Sorry, somebody shooting a couple of pairs of jeans in a bucket of water doesn't cut it. All this zombie bs is wearing thin on me. The novelty wore off a long time ago. |

Z-max is V-max in different packaging with a green tip instead of red.

Someone here did a cutdown and the two were different. IIRC, the ZMax jacket was thicker and untapered and there was no interlocking.

I did not see that, even though I searched every iteration of Z-Max, Zombie Max, etc. that I could think of. I guess because it was posted on the AR15 ammo forum for some reason. It would be nice is we could see a cutaway pic of the SST round next to them. Apparently, the VMax has been discontinued in 7.62x39 (both bullets and loaded cartridges). Can't find in that caliber on Hornady's website. |
