Foreign or domestic? Bought some Winchester White Box for the range this weekend.

Just looking at adding a bunch to my stash and want the good stuff.

Not concerend about the cheapest necessarily, but really something that's clean, reliable and effective.

Recommendations?

* As an aside, I'm going to take some photos of the in's and outs of this AK for another thread, so I can be educated about what exactly I have. Hope I chose wisely.

I would start with the cheapest stuff you can find locally since that makes it easy to get more when you need it. My Walmart carries Tula for $4.99 which is close enough to the online rate that I am happy to buy it there than pay shipping.

Wolf is cheap, but who cares if it functions well and you can hit your target.

Aside from that, The Yugo stuff from Wideners seems to do wonderfully in most people's weapons. It is corrosive but cheap. You decide. I shoot it and never had a FTF/FTE yet.

All the Bears (Brown/Silver/Golden) work well for most folks too. More expensive than Yugo, more than Tula. But still one of the cheaper ones.

I'd buy a few small quantities of cheaper stuff and visit the range to see what your gun prefers. Then stock up.

I love Bear ammo. I highly recommend it. SGA has 1k rounds of Tiger ammo for $218 now, which is pretty good stuff too. Sturm did a test of it on his channel, military arms channel, and it performed well. I've had similar results with it....

M67 is offers superior ballistics and is cleaner than most commercial ammo.
It is corrosively primed. If that frightens you.

I don't know enough about the subject to be" frightened" by any of this, just seeking experienced input.

Is there a well made, non-corrosive, effective domestic option?

The "better" stuff starts around $10 and goes up. I think the cheapest US stuff is probably Winchester around $16. If money were no object then I'd buy myself a case of it.

Not at $220 for a case of 1240 rounds.

You can squeeze 2-3 MOA out of your AK or SKS and it's hard to beat that.
Good, hot, accurate, hard-hitting combat ammo.
Made for war with a long line of dead bodies lying on the ground behind it.
Cleans up with a little hot water. What's there not to like?

Sounds good to me.What exactly is M67? Just so I know what to look for at the next gun show.

Is it a generic term for mil surp AK ammo? Does the country of origin matter? Is it only Yugoslavian?

It's Yugoslavian mil-spec issue ammo and available as surplus, either on on strippers for the SKS or boxed for the AK.
It's starting to dry up and prices are rising so order up a crate or two now, while you can.
You'll usually get it sealed in a sardine can in a cool olive-drab crate with Cyrillic markings. Bonus.
Cheap enough to plink with but designed for war.

A proper AK will shoot anything. I believe you mean brass winchester 7.62, yeah? If so save that brass, if only to sell in the EE. It's rare and you can get some $$ to put toward some russian or ukranian bulk ammo...

Yeah dude, first of all, welcome to the AK!

what follows is my opinion; its a free country, do what you want with your money and stuff.

it's an ak. It doesn't care if its clean ammo, and the term "accurate" is relative. Winchester white box fmj is hella expensive and for me is not noticeably more accurate than wolf or tula or whatever. Yugo is good stuff. Its great stuff. I don't mind corrosive, it just means I have to put water on my gun to clean it, which makes some people all worked up. I repeat, it is an ak. Part of what makes it so awesome is that its the shameless, kinda dirty chick who's always down to party and doesn't expect you to buy her diamonds and shit, compared to the high class daddy's girl that is your AR, who simply refuses to play cause of the slightest little thing you said.
run that thing hard man, and don't even worry about it. Honestly, if I don't use corrosive ammo at the range, I'm not even gonna bother cleaning it. Again that will get some peoples panties all in a bind, but I do what I want and the thing runs every single time. Mmm!

just my input. ;)

Russian is cheap and works. M67 too. Good luck getting domestic for cheap. Ak's don't need it anyway, just as others have said.

I agree with the M67 comments; best combat ammo out there; the primers are corrosive, so all you have to do is give it a good cleaning to get the salts out and you are done, nothing that an extra minute or two of cleaning won;t fix.

People tend to consider corrosive ammo as the "Boogie Man" of surplus ammo. All pre-1960s surplus ammo is corrosive, AFAIK; even American ammo, all you have to do flush the salts out and is done.

There is Hornady Z-Max (nothing more than their steel-cased 123gr. SST ammo with a different color tip, for those that fall for the Zombie Fad), but you'll pay out the nose for it... $23 bucks for a box of 20, compared to $7 or $8 for the same amount of Tulammo or Brown Bear.

Just thought there might be a better quality domestic option.....price isnt a factor as originally mentioned.

Just looking for the best quality, regarless of origin....regardless of price.

I'd be happy with M67, but cant seem to find it anywhere.

Samco appears to be the last place to stock M67 and they have jacked the price way up high.

Is this the ammo you're referring to?

Showing my ignorance here, but I didn't think brass cased ammo was a common feature on Eastern Block ammo?

Is the stuff below any good? I realize its nutty expensive compared to other ammo Im looking at, just curious.

M67 is not cheap steel cased export ammo. It's war material.
It's surplus military ammo designed and issued for combat.

That is the stuff. But that's $150 too much for a case.
I paid $210 delivered for a case in September.
Well, 6 cases actually.

M4, for what it is worth, Brian at AIM has said he is expecting more Yugo 67 this summer but was unsure on the price. He may have to sell it for more than last time, but I bet it will still be cheaper than Samco is selling it for. I have also heard bad stories about Samco shipping costs. Wideners had the same ammo for $245 a week ago, up from $225, but they are out now.
