Anyone else notice a 7.62 x 39 shortage?
I have enough to last me through the summer shooting season. I hope the russians work 24/7 the next few Months Can never have enough of cheap AK ammo John |

Not only 7.62x39, Surplus 7.62x51 is less available at reasonable prices. I check online almost daily for deals, I check Aim, Wideners, and Palmeto and there are less choices than before. Venders with higher prices have better selection. I've been wondering why this hasn't been posted before.

I don't want to clean my AK everytime i shoot it But there is a shortage of Non-Corrosive 7.62x39 Russian ammo. A few months ago you could get Non-Corrosive Russian ammo for well under $199/1000 rounds every day of the week...Not anymore. I did check....Widners Reloading, CopesDist, Aim Dist, J&G Dist, Ammoman.com and Palmetto and my quick investigation revealed that there is a shortage. Good news is there is plenty of 5.56/.223 John |

AIM has more Wolf coming. My guess is the shipping containers are just behind.

I have noticed this too. Over the last couple months the choices and availibleity have decreased, at least for lot of the popular vendors. It started with Golden Tiger and Brown bear was not far behind. Now Uly is even slowly becoming scarce. There is still some out there it's just not as cheap and abundent.
Even Yugo ammo is sold out at a lot of places. Even AIM was sold out for a short time. I know it cost me close to $250 to get a case of Golden Tiger to my door a couple weeks ago, more like a month ago. I know some of the distrubtors were saying end of May, but it seems that has been postponed. I also was hearing mid summer. We will see..... |

WPA, GT and Bear are expecting ammo in June, so the shortage is almost over
|
|
Good to hear, hopefully the prices won't be up from what they were, lower would be better. We will see on this to.....
But more Ammo is always a good thing. |

They don't produce a case and ship it immediately. They don't produce a pallet and ship it immediately. It arrives as a shipping container full of cases of cartridges. It gets here when the ship arrives. It then sits in a customs warehouse until the .gov releases it. The importer gets it, breaks it down, marks up the price and ships it to its customers. All that takes time. |

While not a shortage, I have been finding much more Wolf and no Barnaul. I can load up a mag with the Barnaul and Wolf and tell the difference. The ammo I have is Barnaul marked on the package and not one of their *bear ammos. It shoots as good as yugo surplus ammo, but you don't have to worry about corrosive primers.

Went looking locally for 7.62X39 this weekend and could not find any at Academy or Wal Mart. Local gun store only had Winchester at .75 a round. Some of the online sources I used for my .223 are out of Brown and Silver Bear as well in 7.62.

There's plenty of 7.62 x 39 to go round, if you have enough $$$. Welcome to world of capitalism, comrade. Ees good, no?

It gets here when the ship arrives. It then sits in a customs warehouse until the .gov releases it. The importer gets it, breaks it down, marks up the price and ships it to its customers. All that takes time THIS. And the importers having to negotiate price due to the ever-shifting value of the U.S. dollar one suspects. The ebb & flow of imported ammunition happens all the time, even the PPU runs out now & then. Anyone not noticing this trend over the past 10 –– 15 years just hasn't been paying attention! |
|
The unreliability of 7.62x39 at stores has motivated me to buy a lot and stack it deep. I noticed it's back in Academy for 4.99 per 20 box of Monarch.
I've run out of space in my ammo cans and I'm just stacking it on top of my safe. |
|
No shortage in my basement. Picked up some poorly stored boxes of early 90s russian for $1 a box. Had to sort thru it and dischard about 5% but who cares for that price. Picked up a case of GT from a fellow Arfcomer Saturday. Just got to keep your eyes open for the deals.
Buy cheap and stack deep. One of the best things you can learn from this place. |

I noticed it too. Most of my usual vendors don’t any 7.62x39. Ever when they do it’s usually a very limited selection.
|
|
... agreed. And I hear they will have Golden Tiger 7.62x39FMJBT in stock soon too!
|
|
will you work for ammo?[/quote] Of course. Besides, what else is there in this world of any value to me besides guns? |
|
I think beens wal mart now carries wpa in many common calibers they probably have a contract that is eating most of all the production time to fill the stores and thier prices suck compared to bulk buys I used to get . I am just guessing but look at all the walmarts that are now being supplied all the steel cased ammo has become widespread distributed across many more sellers than ever before! To many spreading the 7.62by39 butter way to thin. I want my damn butter back I wish the ak was still the misfit bitch of the gun owners then things would be cheap and easy again. We all ran our mouths to well and now we are suffering for it. LoL I am glad many are getting into it I am hoping that more U.S. ammo makers will get into steel cased ammo like hornady is trying to do. I hope they have comp. priceing as well.
