I know that there have been a TON of conversations about using Ballistol to clean up after shooting corrosive ammo. I just recently got some to try out, but have a bit of a quandary. Due to the fact that I am a student, I'm not able to shoot locally so I only get trigger time when I head out into the wild. I haven't shot my SAR-2 much because it was such a PITA to clean after using corrosive...but the cost of those rounds is really looking appealing. Basically, I'm going to have a chance to do some shooting in the near future, but I won't be able to do a thorough cleaning for about 1-2 weeks afterwards. If I hose it down with a 1:10 mix of ballistol will that keep the rust at bay for that amount of time before I can do a detailed cleaning?

Ballistol and water works for me. I finish up with a coat of Eezox. If you have a place to store it where the humidity is kept below 50 percent, it would not rust even if you didn't clean it for two weeks. See Hatchers notebook.

I just finish up with a coat of undiluted Ballistol.
