Hey guys, let me begin by saying that I probably don't clean my AK as I should but I also never fire corrosive ammo from it. But yet it's been hanging on the gun rack for a few weeks since I shot it last (fired 3 rounds at a turtle) and I got it down yesterday and was tinkering with it and it has accumulated rust in the gas tube and the gas block. Not bad rust just a light powdery type rust but still rust none the less. The rifle has been in my house and hasn't been exposed to overly moist atmospheres so I'm kinda baffled as to how it happend even with a light coat of oil in the gas tube before I fired it last.

Any ideas as to why I'm getting rust in there?

Even though you lightly oiled the tube, firing it would have dried it out. Add you that the carbon fouling you put in there and you have the grounds for rust. However, as you said, its a light surface rust so just clean it good and you'll be GTG.

Yeah I do guess 3 rounds or so would be plenty enough to dry the gas system out and then with the carbon being left in there for a substantial amount of time it would be a recipe for rust... Oh well, I'll just run a brush through her and oil it back up and I should be GTG again.

The rust is nothing, just clean it.

But why would you shoot at a turtle for fun, you are sick.

I can understand hunting deer, duck, ect., but I have never saw the point of shooting animals like turtles, snakes, ect just for the fun of it.

Poor turtle

Maybe he ate the turtle? I ate one at a survival school and it wasn't as bad as you'd think...

I blast alligator snappers when I see them.

I like toes.
The 2nd Amendment is not about rights. It is about CAPABILITY. It is about ensuring the capability to respond to violence, and oppression. Not with 1 round, or 10, but with the full force of indignant violence deserved at a breach of our peace.

The reason I shoot at turtles for fun is that they cost me money by eating the fish that I stock my lake with. Other than that I wouldn't shoot em unless I was gonna make a little turtle soup
