THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT Other than Windex with ammonia in it to dissolve the corrosive ammo left overs, what other products would you use? |

Diesel fuel for my AK's. Simple Green or similar non-toxic cleaner for the rest.

Ammonia does NOT do anything to the salts left from firing corrosively primed ammunition. The WATER dissolves the salt deposits and flushes them away, if you use enough of it. |

An acceptable gun cleaner can be made from hot water and whatever soap you have handy.
USGI M1 rifle manuals said that hot water or even cold water could be used in an emergency. The water will remove any corrosive primer residue, and will clean the metal of normal firing residue enough to get by. Not as well as a gun cleaner chemical or something like diesel, gasoline, or some sort of oil, but good enough to keep a weapon working. |

What about a mix of water, soap, and a shot of gas or diesel?

Last time I looked gasoline or diesel didn't mix with water.
If you don't have access to a solvent that will dissolve the salts, use water to do so. If that doesn't remove the carbon fouling, then clean a second time with whatever solvent is available that will remove the carbon. |

For 5.45 just flush it in water, dip it in water, or any other combination of water. The rest? Any oil or hydrocarbon that I can scrape together, but in most likelihood, I wouldn't really bother. Its an AK after all. Plus, if I am getting into that many firefights in a SHTF situation, what I should be more concerned about is changing my situation so that I am not constantly in a firefight.

I have an '09 marked arsenal sgl-21, there's some discussion on what exactly the finish is but mine likes Hoppe's.

What are some solvents what wont strip the finish of the wood? I am always terrified to get Ed's Red on the wood because of the acetone and other mean shit, but it happens, and hasn't stripped yet. Would diesel fuel be ok then maybe ATF afterwards?

Put CLP or Ballistol on the end of a bore snake and run it though. That would protect the bore for at least a day or two in the most humid shtf jungles, and thats all the really matter's with an ak. Or you could just keep shooting it that would blast out any humidity.

Shoot corrosive ammo through it, store it in a damp jungle for a couple months, and it's simply not gonna be operable when you find it again. |

You have an Arsenal AK and you are all out of CLP and you need something that won't strip the finish like Hoppes. Other than Windex with ammonia in it to dissolve the corrosive ammo left overs, what other products would you use? |

I have heard stories of afghan farmers tying a knot in their boot laces, dipping them in motor oil and running it down the barrel but I cannot confirm if this is just a Myth or it has some benefit for the weapon.
