5.56 AK 104 or 105 ? not sure. Mostly American and Bulgy parts, maybe a Polish rear tang thrown in there ? Ohio Ord. 5.45 receiver. 11.5" chromed lined bulgy 1-7 barrel, CNC Warrior pinned and welded 5" extended 4 piece flash hider. KNS front sight, XS Sights rear peep. Takes standard AK mags or AR mags, drums, etc. AR butt pad, with storage compartment. TWS cover. The wood is fiddle-back maple, or whatever you want to call it maple. Took too long to build. I'm done with these builds for a while. Shoots good, gassed down, low drag.

Completed my first build last night, a Polish underfolder. Thanks to a good friend of mine who is a machinist at AK Builder, I had access to all the tools, as well as answers to all of my "build-newbie" questions. I am also deeply thankful to Curtis and the guys at AK Builder for letting me use their shit and for putting up with mine.

What I started with:

We now have a firearm:

Trunnions and trigger guard installed:

The finished product:

We did have a few minutes of daylight left after we got done. So I ran home, grabbed a couple mags, raced over to our shooting spot, and put 60 rounds through her like butter. I'm gonna have to do a bit of grinding in the mag well area as all the steel mags I've tried have been very tight to lock in, and I need to work the folding mechanism some as it is also a bit too tight. Other than that, no issues to speak of. Action is smooth, she hits point of aim, I'm happy and already planning the next build.

This is my first kit build, from an AK Builder Bulgy parts kit on an NDS receiver using Toth Tool build tools.
Need a bakelite mag to complete the look, and a plum one for her other furniture.
Paint over cold bluing.

Started out as a bleh Saiga and started the conversion.

Installed the polymer, but wasn't very happy with it.

Found some Bulgy wood and refinished them and the rest is history.

if you're talking about awptickes' build (which is the best guess I can give, since you didn't quote the post you're referencing), no.  it isn't.

if you're not talking about awptickes' build, then you need to use the quote function so you don't look like a schmuckatelli.  kthx.

The particular unique wood was just about all beat upwards and also carved directly into (very great) however it was cracked and slipping apart. So I threw the Russian set on as an alternative, it's got a nice authentic golden color in order to it and i also just like that. I didnrrrt refinish it in any way.

Just a suggestion, post a "Request for help" in your state's "Home Town Forum" here at ARFCOM as to what you need to do. You'd be surprised at the number of members here willing to help you. If they've got the tools and are close to you, you'll probably have a few posts from members who are willing to have you come over with your rifle to get this worked out.

Why's that?

That whole, "Be smarter than the tool" thing.

I got the kit about 2 years ago, and rust blued the receiver about a year ago. I've had way too many projects to finish this particular one up. Either way, I was tired of seeing it sitting on the bench and wanted it done.

Last week, I started riveting in the front trunnion, using the super special, 100% correct rivets I got from a guy on the AK Forum. After setting the two front sell necks, I realized the non-swell necks had different head profile and size. I tried researching as best I could, but could not find any evidence of that being the correct look. Anyways, I finished off the last four rivets with some of Curtis' rivets.

After fiddle fucking with the rear trunnion and the poor fit to the NDS receiver, I accepted the poor fit and mocked it up with screws to make sure the latch worked. It did, so I set the long rivet. This being the first flat head rivet I've done, I used a flat piece of tool steel as a bucking bar. Right after marveling at another beautiful domed rivet, I discovered that the flat bucking bar flattened the factory rivet head into the diameter of a dime.

I drilled it out, took the trunnion out to clean all the shavings out between it and the receiver, re-installed it with screws, checked stock fit, and started again with a K-Var rivet. Set the rivet, and the formed head was tiny. Rivet was too short.

Drilled it out, repeated the process, and used one of Curtis' long rivets. Set beautifully. Too bad I filed down the right side dome head though. Bonehead move.

After that, it was pie. Shit, the front and rear latches were waaaay easier than anticipated. All of the internal rivet tails look great, and I maintained a nice dome on the trunnion/scope rail rivet.

Hopefully, I'll headspace tonight and get it done.

Lessons learned-
Don't work tired
Don't work too drunk
Don't assume all rivets are sized correctly

ETA- Done. Now, back to playing with mutt builds and Yugos.

I think I recall reading Gun Plumber's comments on NDS to Bulgarian trunnion fit issues, but ti looks like he pulled down a lot of the tutorials on his site.

Just started a new build and couldn't find my lucky dimple die, which is just a heat-treated head of a drywall screw. It took a re-organization of the AK tool drawer to find it.

Anyways, tool pics.

Far left of pic is the deformed remnant of a sight pusher, which works perfectly for clearing the center support for pressing trigger guard rivets.
