From what I can tell, we buy the parts our selfs, usually in a kit. As well as the reciever which isn't in the kit. I was looking for a company that does it but the more I read, the more it seems like this is the way to get an ak build party started. We would either have to split the cost of tools or hope that someone who wants to be part of it has done a party before. If you guys want to, I'll try to set something up. Hopefully we can find someone with the tools.

It is always best to have someone present who had done it before.

I've never been to a build party but I was under the impression that finished receivers are not brought to the build party.  Rather, receiver flats are used and bent to shape at the build party.

The flat would be something like the ones here:

I'd be interested depending on what part of Florida, we are a big state, but from North to South can be a far drive. Depending on tools costs too. Maybe we can all start posting links and shopping around? Including receivers, kits and everything else.

I'm about an hour north of Tampa and have most of the tools, missing the spot welder, head space gauges and some other small items

I'm in South Florida too but I'd be willing to travel a few hours.

So who here has experience building AKs?

As I understand it, there are 2 ways to go about it.  You can get a flat that needs bending but needs less other things done to it or you can get a bent one but needs the extra things done.

So which is better to get a flat and bend it or one already bend and finish it?

I saw Cope's has bent Polish receiver blanks for $24.99.

Never used one but from what I've read on other forums those blanks aren't 4130 and don't heat treat the same way.  It throws a hitch in the build.
