Has anyone taken a wsar-10, demilled it and replaced the lower reciever with a mag dimpled reciever (nodak)? I have been throwing this idea around and just want to get some opinions?

Don't do it.

Unless you can do ALL of the work yourself to include bending your own receiver from a flat then it's simply not practical to spend that kind of money just so you can have dimples in your receiver. If having dimples is important just so you can look at it then I would think the money would be better spent on a Russian AKM kit and having it built on a 74u LLC receiver. But, this is just my opinion, or course.

OK, maybe his original idea about buying a ready made WASR (that has an excise tax paid on it) is taking it a little too far, BUT he is on to something here - buying a Romy kit with a US barrel and then bending a proper AKM receiver would be money better spent than a WASR (IMO).

Its like the Draco - you can buy a Draco (if you can find one), SBR it, and you have a true AKM receiver instead of the flat sided WASR style.

I'm in the process of my first build and those dimples have a lot to do with it. I'm no AK virgin, I have owned both a WASR and SAR1 and the SAR1 style receiver is worth having. I have since sold my SAR1 (lack of threads and bayo lug were too much) and have decided to tailor make one

Why didn't you just replace the gas block and thread the barrel?

Because my friend offered to buy it and, all things considered, moving forward with a build sounded more appealing. I end up with a 12" threaded barrel (I understand NFA), a sterile receiver (cept for my trust name, location, and SN), and a stock made the way I want.

While the threads and lug played a very large role, there were other contributing factors.

When its all done though, I have a Romanian AK with a dimpled receiver which is kind of where I started from.

Why would you want to spend money doing this? Just to have cool dimples? Better off leaving it how it is or sell it and spend the money you would have spent on a receiver, transfer, and rivets on another AK with dimples. I run Tapco mags in my WASR. They fit tight and don't wobble. I run steel mags in my other AKs.

My original idea was to have a quaility reciever for the wsar. The dimples are asthetic thing that I liked but not the main reason I thought about doing the change. I already own several other(arsenal) ak's and was just thinking it may be something unique to do to a gun I paid very little for.

For that type of money you can but a NDS Receiver and a parts kit and build one... If your getting a WASR and taking it apart to put it on a new receiver your just asking for more work and you will have to do the paperwork on two guns instead of one..... Or bend your own...
