besides the FCG parts, what else would you need to swap out for 922r compliance, preserving the original look?

Thanks for sharing Bouncer!

I've been wondering how to press the blocks on the barrel...looks simpler than I figured it would be.

Great tutorial.

My preferred way to go for US compliance is replace the trigger/hammer group (3), piston (1), receiver (1) and currently US barrel (1) (that last one varies and depends on what else is available, there are some great US made pistol grips identical to the originals that I would certainly go with if the barrel was too challenging).  There is beauty in the way these were originally built and it truly sucks to have to replace such parts with sub-quality.

Did you use this for the rivets, where do I get one?

AK Builder sells the "rivet tool" but you can make it as long as you have a Dremel for less.  It really is not very complicated.

I just ordered the same kit... does it come with all the pins neccessary or do I have to order some? Also, roughly how many hours do you have in this build?

Link Posted: 6/27/2010 3:21:42 PM EDT
[#12]
you get all the pins.did not keep track of the build time.worked on it on snowy or rainy days.it is my hobby.you might need a oversize barrel pin when you do your headspacing.when you do this kit your will have something that you cannot buy in a gunshop.

Cool thanks!

I've always been kind of a do-it-yourselfer... I've rebuilt just about evey component on my '67 Mustang including 3 motors 2 trannys and 2 rear ends.

This is my first AK build, and I have about a two week time frame of nights and weekends I'd like to try to get it done in before my next summer semmester starts (engineering student).

I bought this kit, a virgin Romanian barrel, I'm about to pick up an NDS receiver, and I bought two barrel pins. I figured it would be good to have a spare in case I mess one up trying to make it bigger or smaller.

This thread helped me build the same kit.

For compliance I used:
G2 trigger
US made gas piston
AK Builder flat receiver
Tapco slant break

I still need to re-finish it, but it shoots like a dream.

Thanks Bouncer, you really helped make this project become a reality.  If you're ever in St. Louis I'll buy you a beer.
