Probably have been said and is covered in biased views, but what are some good lubes to use on an AR? I've been using motor oil for a long ass time, because a Range Officer told me it was cheap and good, and I've been using it ever since... However, I want to try new lubes for my AR, but I don't have the time to try out all the different types. What are some good Lubes or CLPs for the AR platform?

I love Mobil 1.  It works a lot better than all the designer lubes, and it's available... everywhere.

Sorry that this probably isn't the response you are looking for OP

Slip 2000 is my favorite simply because it is extremely slippery like some kind of sex gel ;-), doesn't dry out as fast as most oils, doesn't smell, and it is clear so it doesn't stain.

Froglube works for me. Ive heard others state that it gunks up when hot, but that's only if you use an excessive amount. I personally haven't  experienced any jams or FTF, FTE, no stove piping, nothing. And it smells minty and its non toxic so I don't have to wear gloves when using it.

Did you guys see the Geissele vid where he discussed lubes and his watery grease?  He stated his findings on Mobile 1.

I drank the Mil-Com koolaid when I got some with a Sig.  TWB25 for grease and MC2500 for oil.  Snagged a pint of MC2500 price mismarked at <50% of retail.  I like the way it cleans up.  A few youtube vids showed that it resisted corrosion well.

All synthetic, I don't want to use solvents or petro based products.

I use something like this to apply drops of oil where rec'd in the maintenance thread

+1 on the Tw25B grease.  I have a bunch of this and use it on my carrier rails and bolt (along with oil in some places.)  I also use Tw25B on my pistol frame rails instead of oil.  Stays put and cleans up easily.

Using Slip2000 EWL currently.

Used to use Miltech.  Would still be using it but ran out of it and had plenty of Slip so been using it.

I'm using surplus LSA. I bought a couple quarts 8 years ago and haven't run out yet.

Mobil 1 synthetic is great too.

Honestly why change?

If all you been using is motor oil, then I suggest getting a good solvent to complement it. Maybe go with a mpro7 cleaner or a bottle of hoppes #9. That way you can give your firearm a good cleaning and using the motor oil to lube it.

Honestly it is hard to find a lube that matches the quality of a good motor oil/grease. In the past I have been using mobil1 grease and wanted to change. I went with CLP and found it didn't work at all after a certain number of rounds. After looking for a while, I finally landed on milcom tw25b grease. It behaves similarly with mobil1 grease. I have been using that ever since.

If anything at all, I recommend "upgrading" to mobil1 grease and finding a good cleaner/solvent product to complement your lube.

I'm trying the Lucas Extreme now and have been impressed with it. Have and have used all the others. Machine gunners lube worked good as a lube but Lucas is easier to clean up. CorrosionX is the only thing here on the coast of Texas that keeps the rust off bare/ blued steel.

shot one of my ARs that has been sitting for about 3 months now.

I lubed it up with slip 2000 before it got put away.

Checked it again before firing to see how wet it was.

Thing looked like it had just been lubed an hour ago, was still extremely wet. It cycled 300 rounds just fine.

About to clean it off to see how the bolt is looking.

slip2000 ewl and ewg is still awesome imo.

honestly, lube is lube for the most part. I used 5w30 synth motor oil (usually Royal Purple, because that's what I picked up), CLP, Lucas Gun oil, Outers gun oil, ballistol, M-Pro 7... whatever is closest to my hand when I clean and they all work fine. It's just oil. slick it up like an aging porn star and run it hard (just like said aging porn star)

I have a bunch of Break Free stuff, CLP/LP/CO, but mostly using Slip 2000 EWL.  I also have some WeaponShield, I used to use the FP10 like crazy and it actually seemed to help cleaning of pistols that I shot a lot (when you use it like crazy).  Lube is mostly lube, but some clean up better or do clean better, and have varying toxicity.

I use TW25b for grease.  I have some of the other greases, but usually stick to TW25b.

I don't use petroleum based products anymore, or any solvent.  I drank Mil-Com kool aid when some came with a Sig, then a 16oz. mismarked bottled of MC2500 for $29.  I like their non solvent based MC25.

In 2015 a lube company was found to be selling Crisco, so there is snake oil out there.  In 1979 I thought Hoppes was lacking, just the concept of CLP was illogical, never bought any.  Wait I do have some Rem Oil.  I use it on my Parkarized deer rifle finish.  I won't buy any more though.

The Mil-Com does clean up better than the 70s tech I used before I bought my last new batch of guns.

There are some damn good lubes out there.  Gunners should try a few and see what you like.  (OT:  I wonder if the PFTEs are trading one problem for another.)

No, I did not see that video.  What were his findings on Mobil 1?

I currently use Mobil 1 0W-40 and it works very well for me.

Damn, I just spent an hour looking for BG's friction test and can't find it anywhere.  I messaged their site and found I wasn't signed up for a Mk 14 even though they said I was.

Apologies in advance for the weak answer.
