I'm trying to find a field gauge in 5.56 that does not require the ejector and extractor to be removed. Only one that I'm aware of is the USGI field  gauge which is very hard to find.

does anyone know of any other manufacturer that makes one or where I can track down a USGI field gauge ?

cjcs supply and bill Ricca were the only 2 I knew of that used to have them in stock.

Info is from 2005.

Thanks, I knew about Bill. I'll check the other site. Hard to believe no one else has manufactured one.

The price of one USGI field gauge would probably outweigh the cost of buying a field gauge, rubber hammer, drifter, ejector pin, and a bolt tool.

I think the last time they were for sale they went for about 1000 dollars. They're merely a collectors item. I don't think the military even has a need for it, really.

well, I dug out my USGI field gauge I bought back ages ago. the DA form 3023, GAUGE RECORD, dated 1990 that was packed with it. says it was made by a company called  A.M. PRECISION MACH.

they are still in business, you can contact them. but, I highly,  highly doubt that they would sell you one, if they are even still making them

according to Bill Ricca cost of the gauge is about 600.00.  I think I paid 45 or less for mine in 05.

Contact Pacific Tool and Gauge, they may have them.

Worse comes to worse, you can just grind away a bit of a standard gauge.

In what universe does that price make sense for what you are getting?

I'm not saying that the price is incorrect but holy crap that is ridiculous.

Even $600.00 is unthinkable.

I was trying to say earlier that the USGI field gauge is purely a collectors item.

The cost of getting one USGI Field Gauge, at the lowest possible price, is far, far, far greater than simply buying a name brand field gauge, punch, extra roll pin, rubber mallet, and bolt tool. In the same amount of time you google a USGI field gauge, you could have easily checked if your rifle is good to go or not.

I was trying to find one to save time checking several uppers. It appears they are worth more then Charlie Sheens hookers. I'll just pull the ejectors and extractors and grab a set of go/no-go gauges.

Damn... I've got two of them ( open but still in the foil wrapper and paper, with the data cards), one manufactured in '83, one in '85..

Well dang.. if field gauges are fetching THAT much $... why hasn't anyone else stepped up with an alternative (competitor)? Sounds like 500x profit to made there. They could take a typical gauge, mill out the required areas, and add $50-100.
