Anyone have the skinny on the cheapest (but obviously safe & effective) solvent one can bulk order? I just want to buy a few gallons.

What are you dissolving?

Kerosene is pretty cheap. And E85. Odorless mineral spirits. Denatured alcohol. Naptha.

Like Gamma says;  kerosene.  Or, if you are fussy, parts washer solvent.  Autoparts stores may have it.  Tractor Supply.  (TSC)

Yup.  Gamma nailed it.

Everything he said forms a ton of off the shelf branded solvents.

Just carbon and grime and such from my AR15. It's pretty nasty with a suppressor, and was mulling over bulk buying a solvent and a lubricant. A lot of my friends use used motor oil as lube.

I use odorless mineral spirits.  Cheap and easy.   For a more aggressive cleaner,  Ed's Red works well.

A 50/50 mix of kerosene and alcohol. Make it about 45% of each, and add 5% anhydrous ammonia (the industrial strength stuff, not household cleaner) and 5% banana oil (for smell) and you have something that matches Hoppes #9 MSDS.

I was going to post the universal solvent in the first reply but thought better of it

I assume you meant Hoppes #9? Or is there a #7?

NEVER use used motor oil for anything other than fill for an oil recycling tank.
