So....during a shooting session, one of my friends set my rifle on a camping chair. The red paint/plastic stuff from the arm of the chair melted to my barrel.

How do I get it off without scratching up my barrel?

Heat it up then wipe it off? I don't know if the plastic will peel as it is.

Tried it, shot about three mags through it then tried to use stick to scrape it off, no go

Let  Kroil or Ballistol soak on it for an hour or so.  I would bet one or the other would get it off.

See, you feel me, lol.

I'll have to find those oils local, and give them a go.

I'm half tempted to take a propane torch and heat it up and try and scrape it off.

Had a buddy rest my 556 suppressor on a blue tarp.  Sprayed with CLP, wiped with a rag and came right off.
There was a bit of residual dye, but that's faded.

Supressor made from the same material, maybe it had a coating the barrel doesn't?

I'll hit a gun store tomorrow and see if I can get some CLP

Tranny oil and a stiff brush some heat may be needed. Not a lot as you don't want the steel cherry red hot.

Get it hot and apply the CLP.  It will smoke, then use an oven mitt or thick towel to dislodge it.

The suppressor gets much hotter, due to the thin walls, so it may take a few mag dumps to get it hot.

oh, and post some pics.  ;)

Had carb cleaner laying around, used it and it took majority off, you can still see oily marks where it melted to it but that's it. Thanks guys.

I used a heat gun peeled right off.  One could vaguely see where the melted plastic was.

This stuff dissolves tar, glue and adhesives.
